Summary Statement:
Under the direction and guidance of the Quality Supervisor, the Lab Quality Technician coordinates and leads the activities of the food safety and quality system for the Sawatch Artisan Foods and Kansas Dairy Ingredients teams to ensure the application of GMP’s, SQF Code requirements and Pasteurized Milk Ordinance requirements necessary for the production of safe and high-quality food products. Tasks are to be completed while maintaining the highest safety, food safety and quality, cost and GMP standards in a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
· Train in Appendix N of the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance and become proficient in Charm Sciences testing equipment for antibiotics in raw milk, metal detection, temperature checks and other critical preventive controls.
· Responsible for production record reviews and key performance indicators activities in records and documentation
· Perform special projects in the lab per request of management.
· Perform and maintain the environmental monitoring plans, shipping samples accordingly.
· Daily microbiology monitoring and notification of out of specification products & pre-operation verification activities.
· Corrective action documentation as assigned, root cause analysis.
· Calibration of lab equipment, thermometers throughout the plant.
· SOP review and development activities when assigned.
· This individual will have more floor presence than Lab presence.
Qualifications, Education and Experience:
· High School Diploma/GED.
· 3-5 years of demonstrated experience in a food manufacturing environment or higher education in microbiology, food science or dairy science preferred.
· Demonstrated experience in a leadership role preferred.
· Understanding of GMPs, SOPs, and food safety and quality audits.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and communicate with others. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally move and/or lift up to 50 pounds with assistance. See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents. Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. The employee is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be able to work in heat and cold/inclement weather.
