Title: Lab Associate
Location: South San Francisco, CA
Work-Type: Temp-To-Hire, On-Site, Full-Time (M-F: 1st shift)
Salary: $60-75K(DOE) Kelly Standard Benefits
Responsibilities:
• Manage a shared consumable stock for multiple labs while maintaining an accurate inventory. Reorder when supplies are below a predetermined threshold, and update this threshold with respect to usage and supply chain conditions. Follow up with vendors and suppliers; reordering before stockout is critical.
• Assist with routine office tasks such as facilitating badge access, creating facilities work orders, scanning mail, managing office supplies, etc.
• Coordinate with the research team to schedule routine equipment maintenance, decontamination, calibration and certification. Ensure all equipment is in good working order and work with vendors if repairs are needed. Maintain detailed records for all equipment assets.
• Manage medical CO2, liquid nitrogen and dry ice stock, schedule weekly deliveries, and source these items from alternate suppliers when necessary.
• Assist with managing lab safety systems, including protocols and other documentation. Perform periodic safety checks (e.g., flushing eyewash and safety shower) and maintain accurate records. Help to ensure a safe working environment and recommend changes as necessary.
• Ensure the integrity of our cold storage by performing routine maintenance. Keep on top of issues and plan what to do in the event of an emergency, 24/7.
• Provide support to hazardous waste management according to local, state and federal regulations.
• Maintain accurate records including hazardous waste profiles and manifests and help facilitate periodic audits.
• Schedule routine pickups of hazardous waste through a designated carrier.
• Keep scientists updated with current information regarding equipment, inventory and general lab operations issues. Help find creative solutions and alternatives to issues to avoid project delays.
• Help scientists with routine tasks as time permits; e.g., making stock solutions, washing and coating plates, plasmid prep, qPCR.

Requirements:
• Associate’s Degree with 1 year industry experience, or Bachelor’s Degree in a Life Science discipline and 1 year experience as a Lab Assistant, Technician, or Associate
• Experience with general wet lab practices and familiarity with tissue culture techniques
• Ability to be an essential resource person for lab users, and willingness to respond to emergency situations 24/7
• Enthusiastic about lab safety and organization
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Willingness to meet new challenges and use creative problem solving
• Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects and budgets
• Interest in learning EH&S procedures and processes and managing lab safety
