Engineering Technician

Job title: Engineering Technician, ENTRY LEVEL

Contract Period: 10 Months

Location: Holtsville, NY

Location: Individuals must work onsite in Holtsville, NY.

Schedule: 830am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. Hours can be flexible following the initial training period.

Ideal Candidate Profile:
The manager would like to hire junior-level candidates with a degree in Electrical Engineering. We are also open to individuals with ElectroMechanical Engineering degrees. Professional experience is not required for entry level candidates with degrees. If candidates do not have a degree, they will need 2 years of applicable professional experience.

Interview Style: First round will be a 30 minute video call with the hiring manager, and the second round would be a technical call with the team.

Assignment Length: There is potential to extend the assignment past July 1st, but this will be evaluated by the business as we get closer to that time frame. This also is a great opportunity for junior-level candidates to potentially get hired into a full-time engineering role at Zebra.

Job Summary:
Under guidance from engineers, creates bread boards and prototypes of design assemblies. Tests prototypes using standard lab equipment/processes. Maintains records of preliminary schematics and documents test results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
– Follows established processes to create and test preliminary product assemblies.
– Works from written and verbal descriptions, or defined plans to perform testing, checkout and trouble-shooting functions. Performs operational test and fault isolation on product assemblies and hardware. Determines methods or actions to remedy malfunctions. Performs audits and tests of products in development in accordance with test plans and procedures. Debugs and characterizes defects, provides detailed configuration and descriptions for passing and failing tests for product evaluation reports. Identifies actual or potential problems in test plans or company products.
– Records results of tests and maintains lab documentation as required.
– Works on analysis of processes and delivers results to necessary stakeholders.
– Assists product development engineers in the diagnosis and replication of product failures. Analyzes test results and makes recommendations.
– Reviews changes or upgrades to existing designs and ensures testing is completed for each design revision.
– Exercises judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions on assignments

Job Requirements:
BS degree preferred; must have classes or coursework in engineering
2 years technician experience if the candidate does not have a degree
