currently recruiting for a Laboratory Technician in Pensacola, FL!
GENERAL SUMMARY
The R&D Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing laboratory experiments; pilot scale experiments; collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and compiling data and results under the supervision of the R&D group leader and scientists. The R&D lab tech may be required to assist the fabrication, modification, and maintenance of experimental apparatus. The R&D lab tech is expected to assist in the preparation, set-up, and execution of production scale membrane casting runs and post-treatment processes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the guidance of the R&D group leader and scientists, the R&D lab tech is responsible for performing the following duties and responsibilities with minimal supervision:
- Calculate and prepare laboratory formulations and chemical solutions.
- Perform laboratory screening of new membrane formulations
- Perform screening of new membrane formulations working with manufacturing equipment and personnel during R&D pilot runs.
- Assist in preparation, set-up, and execution of R&D and manufacturing scale experimental runs.
- Collect, analyze, interpret, and report data and experimental findings.
- Fabricate and/or modify experimental apparatus or manufacturing equipment.
- Assist in the development of new testing methods or procedures.
- Perform routine and specialized QC of developmental membranes.
- Provide general laboratory and administrative support including, but not limited to, inventory maintenance, safety audits, and maintenance and upkeep of the laboratory and warehouse.
- Perform other general support duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
The successful candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- A good working knowledge of polymers and/or polymer engineering typically gained through formal education in physics, chemistry, materials science, or polymer science/chemistry or related field. Industrial experience is advantageous.
- Good computer literacy skills—proficient with Windows, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and e-mail program operation.
- Good problem-solving skills—the ability to analyze a problem thoroughly and develop and implement effective solutions.
- A strong mechanical aptitude.
- The ability to operate laboratory equipment.
- The ability to work safely with chemicals.
- The ability to collect, analyze, and present data and conclusions in a logical, thoughtful fashion
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to work on several simultaneous assignments while maintaining proper attention to detail.
