What are the responsibilities and job description for the Campus Utility Technician position at Kemin Industries?
The position is responsible for helping to maintain the general aesthetics of the campus grounds and its buildings. This includes: Performing daily and frequent checks of grounds to ensure general campus aesthetics are kept up to standards, including grass, trees, vegetation, buildings, parking, sidewalks, gates, ponds, and identifying security issues and/or breaches, and ordering and ensuring supplies are stocked and in place and maintaining a current inventory record. It is expected that the incumbent will take careful considerations when performing their job. They are expected to follow instructions, specific procedures and protocols, and adhere to policies to ensure a safe work environment.

Responsibilities
- Cleaning up debris.
- General maintenance on buildings and grounds (i.e. pond, fountain, walkways, toilets, lights etc.)
- Regularly monitoring and recording utility meters.
- Support Kemin staff by: assisting with hazardous waste removal, setting up for meetings, celebrations, and other events, ordering supplies, stocking water, pop, coffee, safety glasses and paper for the printers.
- Ability to operate forklift, skid loader, mowers, snow removal equipment and other manufacturing equipment.
- Ability to operate a variety of hand tools, power tools and perform various maintenance tasks.
- Operate snow plow and other winter weather removal equipment in a timely manner.
- Operate lawn care equipment in a timely manner.
- Ensure a clean and well-manicured grounds area.
- Ensure a safe environment for employees and guest.
- Work with other departments such as, but not limited to R&D Staff, Administrative Staff, Shipping/Receiving, Warehousing, outside vendors, and company customers.
- Follow test protocol provided by engineering or supervisory personnel
- Must take careful consideration when performing job duties. Expected to follow instructions, specific procedures and protocols, and adhere to policies to ensure the highest quality of product and a safe work environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School diploma, or equivalent, with 0-5 years of applicable experience or a 4-year degree
- Obtain and maintain a Driver’s License
- Ability to read, write, handle basic math problems
- Hazardous material knowledge
- Safety/ OSHA training
- First aid/CPR/AED training
- GMP/ISO background
- Must be proficient in English
- Grounds experience
- Plant and Tree knowledge
- Mechanically inclined
- Problem solving skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Basic computer knowledge
- Must have a good attendance record, ability to work with minimum supervision, and a high level of accountability for their work
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders
- Proactive, self-directed individual
