By joining our Kentucky Department of Highways / District 11 Project Delivery & Preservation Br II Williamsburg Section Knox County Unit as a/an Highway Technician Superintendent I in Knox County, you’ll have the opportunity to supervises employees in the highway maintenance and repair of roads.

Holders of the Highway Technician Superintendent I position will complete tasks such as:

• Supervises, oversees, and assists highway employees in the maintenance and repair of roads, bridges, culvers, guardrails, roadside vegetation, traffic signs, pavement markings and delineation.
• Maintain records and reports (including electronic) on personnel, equipment and supplies. Interprets department policies and procedures.
• Ensures safety of employees and proper traffic control on job sites.
• Responds and properly supervises snow and ice removal, as well as other emergencies.

Holders of this job will obtain the following skills:

• Provides technical assistance on highway maintenance projects.
• Ensure proper traffic control on jobsites.
• Maintain inventory of materials, equipment and supplies for highway projects.
• Perform Cabinet's Snow and Ice Policies.

Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:

• High School Diploma
• 10 Years of Construction or Highway Maintenance Experience
• Class A CDL

Working Conditions

Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility or section office, at work sites throughout the assigned work area and when necessary, district wide. Incumbent will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction. Must be able to work extended hours and be outside during inclement weather.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
