Position Description This position will play a key leadership role in supporting Kenvue’s sustainability/ESG global strategy and the company’s approach to designing and developing more sustainable products and packaging, with a specific focus on supporting progress toward Kenvue’s related public-facing goals. Informed by product stewardship principles and enabled with science-based tools, the leader in this role will bring their subject matter expertise to help advance the company’s global portfolio of sustainable products to create value and enhance brand purpose. The role will work with closely with Product Resiliency and Sustainability, Global Packaging, Procurement, and the Global Franchise leads (Self Care, Skin Health, Essential Health) to develop global product/package standards, strategies and glidepaths that advance the company’s progress toward its related sustainability goals. Working closely with regional champions, the job will also support the adoption and execution of the global strategy into local markets. The position requires a deep understanding of current sustainability trends, challenges and opportunities in the retail/consumer goods industry, with insights into the personal care and consumer healthcare sectors. The candidate should also have familiarity with the global regulatory landscape, including extended producer responsibility, circular economy policies and other regulations that impact the development and marketing of Kenvue’s portfolio of products. The role will also work closely with the end-to-end data strategy team to develop current and future states for data collection, governance, systems, and tools for sustainability and ESG measurement and reporting. The candidate will have a keen ability to work in a global corporate environment with multiple cross-functional stakeholders and a demonstrated ability to develop global programs to achieve Kenvue’s sustainability goals. Reporting to our Global Head of ESG/Sustainability, and as a member of a small Global ESG team, in addition to this job’s focus on product/packaging the candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to the company’s overall ESG/Sustainability strategy and performance across all impact areas. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working with sustainable product and packaging development, an understanding of the various environmental impacts that are created in the product life cycle and value chain, and experience identifying and integrating more sustainable alternatives to common materials, formulae, formats and delivery models used in the industry. The candidate must also have great business acumen, exceptionally strong problem solving and negotiating skills, a passion for leading transformative changes in the ways of working, and an ability to work cross-functionally in driving solutions. Key Responsibilities: - In partnership with the Global Head of ESG/Sustainability, align cross-functional teams to implement strategies supporting the company’s current and future product and packaging goals and internal commitments including: - 100% recyclable, reusable, or compostable for all plastic packaging by 2025 - 100% of polystyrene and black plastic containers eliminated from our global portfolio by 2022 - 100% certified or post-consumer (PCR) paper & pulp-based packaging by 2025 - Reduce virgin plastic packaging by 25% and achieve a minimum of 15% PCR usage overall by 2025. - Maintain 100% Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certification for our palm oil derivatives (with at least 50% of our volumes from RSPO physical supply chains) - Greater product transparency, beginning with our ingredients - Partner with E-2-E data strategy team on the development of data collection processes, governance and tools for packaging and product. - Partner with procurement, strategic suppliers and external organizations (Rainforest Alliance, RSPO) to advance our sustainable sourcing approaches to critical raw materials. - Develop strategic plans, programs and initiatives to help achieve goals and ensure progress with expert counsel and adept influencing skills. - Partner with R&D teams to identify new materials innovations that support environmental goals in product and packaging and with Procurement teams in buying strategies that consider the need for cost efficiency. - Partner with R&D on interpreting results of Life Cycle Assessments and collaborate with Franchise and Legal teams in validating environmental product claims used in consumer-facing communications. - Maintain knowledge of best practices in sustainable product and packaging in the personal care and OCT drug industry and broader CPG sector to keep the company informed of important landscape changes. - Support corporate sustainability/citizenship communications related to product and packaging. - Engage with third party associations and/or multi-stakeholder initiatives, as appropriate. - Support internal awareness-building of important trends in the sourcing of sustainable materials including resin and help champion new approaches to strategic sourcing including strategic investments, JVs, collaborations, and partnerships. - Partner with Product Transparency team to advance the work already begun. - Represent the Corp ESG/Sustainability team on project Harmony. - Provide SME input on the development of the Kenvue’s eco-design tool and our company’s participation in the EcoBeauty Score Consortium. - Support existing collaborations and trade association memberships, as appropriate. Identify new partnerships, coalitions and collaborations that advance Kenvue’s product circularity. - Provide SME to support the requirements of key EPR, Green Deal and Circular Economy regulations. The anticipated base pay range in New Jersey for this position is $160,000 to $276,000.
Qualifications:
Critical Skills and Requirements: - Master’s degree in engineering, science, environmental science, business administration, or marketing preferred. - Minimum 8 years of experience in corporate sustainability practice. - SME in sustainable product and packaging and principles of circular economy; knowledge of best-in-class company practice programs and approaches within and outside the sector. - Working knowledge of life cycle assessment tools to optimize design for environmental performance. - Familiarity with the ESG regulatory landscape and the EPR and circularly policies that impact the development and marketing of Kenvue's products. - Experience in cross-functional team leadership and/or a clear track record of effective leadership by influence is required. - Effective communicator with an aptitude to think and react quickly, with poise and accuracy, excellent communication skills, both written and verbal - At ease with navigating complexity and changing environments; able to think broadly and across dimensions to identify solutions. - Global sensibility, possessing the intuition and understanding to partner effectively cross culturally to establish deep credibility as experienced and thoughtful leader and organizational change agent. - Adept at crafting and cultivating strategic partnership with NGOs and external stakeholder groups. - Serves as a role model for developing trusting relationships and collaborative work environment that is diverse and inclusive. - Demonstrates and inspire behaviors that reinforce the Kenvue Values and Culture. - Create culture of accountability and continuous improvement. - Clear track record of effective people management, including growing and developing a talent pipeline. - 25% travel expected.
