What You'll Be Doing
Demonstrates leadership in the area of safety. This requires observing and enforcing safety rules and practices, encouraging safe work behaviors, and promptly correcting conditions and unsafe behavior, which may lead to accidents.
Continually endorse the Quality & Food Safety Policies, assure conformance to all requirements of the Quality & Food Safety Management Systems, & take action to properly report failures of these systems to site management.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION
Responsible for cleaning key production areas at high risk for environmental contamination.
Operates foamers, pressure washers, and hose stations in an efficient and workmanlike manner. Uses washing chemicals in a safe manner as established by the company. Fully understands all of the chemicals in the plant: what they’re used to clean, how to correctly use them, dilutions, handling of the chemicals, and what to do if improperly exposed to a chemical.
Keeps steps, railing landings, ledges, lights, and floors clean and sanitary at all times. Operates stepladders, scaffolding and apparatuses in a safe manner.
Washes walls, tank exteriors, and overhead pipes, which may require repetitive motion on a routine basis.
Fills out all master sanitation schedules after completing each task.
Operates CIP systems and understands the use of chemicals. Fills barrels of chemicals from the bulk feeders.
Understands batch/lot, sampling and HACCP procedures/systems.
Will be alert to spot malfunctions in the operation of equipment that could be unsafe to the employee, or others in the area. Immediately reports such conditions to their supervisor.
May paint parts of the building and equipment.
Cleans footbaths and may perform janitorial duties in the rest rooms.
Operates forklift.
What You'll Need To Be Successful And Safe
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED.
EXPERIENCE: None required.
Six months to one-year experience in a food manufacturing environment desirable.
SKILLS Must have the ability to work alone and in close cooperation with production personnel. Capable of working through complex problems alone or with others to provide logical solutions. Required to read and follow rules for maintaining a sanitary plant. The physical demands of this position include the ability to walk and stand on a regular basis. Will be expected to scrub, sweep, and scour in a repetitive motion for long periods of time. Must climb stairs and ladders. The ability to reach, bend/stoop, crouch, squat, push/pull and manipulate is frequently required. Must be able lift full pails of washing solution, jugs of chemicals, equipment, or move bags of product that could weigh 50 pounds and occasionally more. Vision and the ability to read and write are required to perform this job. Talking and hearing are not essential functions of this position.
The job is mostly performed inside. There is exposure to humidity, dust, fumes, noise, and chemical agents. Hearing protection is required. On occasion there is close proximity to moving objects and sharp tools and limited room for movement when staging product. The floor surface is linoleum, metal grates, or concrete frequently wet in some areas. The temperature is variable based on the season and the task being performed.
Must be able to work in cold and hot environments and able to work outside of the building as needed (i.e. snow removal, trash pickup around the building)
