Position Overview:
Kidspace Children’s Museum seeks a groundskeeper to oversee the overall care, upkeep and maintenance of all outdoor areas of the museum campus including landscaped areas, pathways, courtyards, and outdoor exhibits and water features. Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Groundskeeper will work with other members of the maintenance team to ensure our 3 acre campus is safe, welcoming and beautiful.
This is a full-time, non-exempt position located in Pasadena CA. This position is Sunday-Thursday, 6:30am-3pm.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain all outdoor areas of the museum including landscape, walkways, and courtyards.
- Oversee outside vendors working on grounds related projects and maintenance.
- Perform grounds maintenance work including planting, cultivating, trimming, pruning, and irrigating plants. Some hand watering.
- Use and maintain all groundskeeping equipment including hand and power tools.
- Maintain and repair irrigation systems.
- Work with maintenance team to address any issues with outdoor exhibits or displays.
- Prepare campus for various weather conditions by weatherproofing, covering, securing loose items, etc.
- Perform opening procedures for the museum as needed.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and a positive and respectful attitude with co-workers and visitors.
- Actively contributes to our culture of inclusivity, welcome, collaboration, and play.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Additional Skills:
- Knowledge of and/or the ability to learn about the care and proper use of tools and equipment used in the development and maintenance of lawns, landscape beds, trees, and general grounds.
- Ability to quickly learn proper methods of maintenance, care, and installation of landscape beds, lawns, trees, irrigation systems and general grounds.
- Ability to distinguish between different cleaning materials, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, with the ability to read and understand label information.
- Knowledge of and/or the ability to learn occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Must be able to report for work on time and to perform the duties of the job for an entire workday.
- Ability to work flexible hours with some holiday work required.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to communicate with team members and to follow supervisor's oral and written instructions.
- Working knowledge of Spanish language preferred
Minimum Experience:
- 2 years of experience in landscape maintenance.
- Must have valid CA driver’s license with acceptable driving record for the past three years.
Physical Requirements
- Performs duties while standing, walking, bending, sitting, or climbing.
- Climbs to heights of at least 10 feet.
- Requires bending, squatting, crouching, stooping, twisting, pushing, pulling, carrying, lifting, reaching, working overhead, and climbing.
- Requires lifting and/or carrying up to 50 lbs. and pushing and/or pulling of up to 120 lbs.
- Operates and performs light-duty maintenance with weed eaters, edger, backpack blowers, sprayers, rakes, shovels, and other small tools.
- Work is performed outdoors and some tasks may be required to be performed regardless of weather conditions.
- Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, rain, slippery surfaces, loud noises, machinery with moving parts, dirt, dust, debris, chemicals, fumes, and foul odors.
- Operates various hand tools, including but not limited to, extension trimmer, hedge trimmer, shovel, weed eater, rakes, backpack sprayer, and pressure washer.

Kidspace currently requires all staff to wear masks while on the museum campus. Per our vaccine policy, all staff is required to be fully vaccinated and boosted.
