What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Choral and Vocal Studies position at Kilgore College?
Position summary:
Kilgore College offers a strong collegiate music program with several unique course offerings and performing ensembles including KC Chorale, KC Connection (Choir), Wind Symphony, Marching Band, Chamber Ensembles (Woodwind, Brass, Percussion, Strings, Piano), Big Band Jazz Ensemble and Steel Band in a department with approximately 100 music students regularly enrolled. Preparation for several major concerts and solo and ensemble festivals and auditions occurs year-round.
Position responsibilities:
- Teach, conduct, and develop college level choral ensembles
- Manage and take sole responsibility for all choral and vocal studies in a sequential program of instruction at Kilgore College
- Recruit vocal/choral students through various initiatives including on and off-campus school, community, and event activities and visits
- Audition and advise choral and vocal students regarding courses and degrees
- Host choral and vocal events on campus
- Teach other music courses as assigned in areas of expertise and department needs including applied private vocal lessons, vocal masterclasses, music appreciation, music theory and aural skills.
- Manage and develop choral music library
Minimum Position Requirements:
- Master’s degree or higher in Choral Conducting, Vocal Performance, or Music Education. or Master’s degree or higher with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Choral Conducting, Vocal Performance, or Music Education.
- Applicants should have demonstrated experience as a choral conductor for a variety of styles including classical and traditional choral music, vocal jazz, and contemporary music.
- At least one year of demonstrated teaching experience required.
- Demonstrated skills in successfully working with diverse populations through experiences such as formal training and past work experiences.
- Professional Performing Experience and Focus
- Team Teaching capability and experience in the college environment preferred
- Secondary Level Teaching Experience preferred
- Excellent Communication and Organizational Skills
- The ability to provide quality customer service

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office and classroom environment.
- No or very limited physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
- No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

Provide resources for safe operation of units. Create and support workplace safety.

- The 10-month salary for a new faculty member is based upon level of education, years of teaching experience, and years of related work experience. Base salaries, excluding pay for previous experience, range from $41,100 for a master’s degree to $44,100 for a doctorate plus stipend of $2,500. Additional overload classes are paid separately.
Kilgore College does not participate in the federal Social Security program. As a result, employees/retirees of the college are subject to the federal Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and possibly the Government Pension Offset (GPO) laws. Positions will remain open until filled. Teaching positions will be required to submit official transcripts upon an offer of employment. An offer of employment will be contingent upon passing a background check. Federal law prohibits the employment of unauthorized aliens. Failure to submit proof within the required time shall result in immediate employment termination. All position appointments are subject to approval by the college's Board of Trustees.
