Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) is a global leader in the protection of unaccompanied refugee and migrant children. Launched in 2008, KIND champions a world in which every childs rights and well-being are protected throughout their journey to safety. Since 2008, KIND has accepted over 23,000 referrals of children seeking legal representation in their immigration proceedings. KIND has welcomed more than 41,000 attendees to trainings since its founding, cultivating partnerships with over 670 law firms, corporate legal departments, law schools, and bar associations across the country.
KINDs social services program ensures that migrant and refugee children who have often endured trauma receive counseling, educational support, medical care, and other comprehensive services.
To address the root causes of child migration from Central America and strengthen the protection of unaccompanied children, KIND advocates for policy changes and educates lawmakers, the media, and the broader public on the conditions that drive these children to flee their home countries. KIND supports children returning to their home countries by connecting them to essential support services and sponsors gender-based violence prevention programs in Central America to protect children in countries of origin and transit.
KIND is also building upon its expertise in the protection of unaccompanied children to encourage the development of pro bono initiatives across Europe in partnership with European NGOs.
Position Summary:
KIND seeks an Office Coordinator located in our KIND office location. This position collaborates with KINDs Office Operations department. The Office Coordinator will ensure the efficient and effective day-to-day operations of KIND office(s), through management of key administrative priorities through collaboration across organizational functions and components including Operations, Finance, and Human Resources. The Office Coordinator reports to the Regional Director.
Essential Functions:
- Ensure the smooth operation of the office(s) by overseeing and coordinating local facilities-related matters; managing meeting spaces; receiving and sorting mail and packages; maintaining supplies, inventory, equipment, and overall tidiness of the office.
- Liaise with and oversee contractors and vendors to enable facilities maintenance and repairs.
- Assist with onboarding and off boarding staff and interns, ensuring the setup of accounts, equipment, and workstations.
- Ensure safety, operational and institutional policies and protocols are kept current and successfully implemented locally.
- Develop proficiency and clear understanding in the use and maintenance of office systems, equipment, and technology, and assist staff as needed.
- Provide day-to-day support to staff, ensuring their technological, operational, and office-wide systems needs are met.
- Manage the field office general email inbox, triaging to applicable parties as needed.
- Assist with the planning of office-wide events, such as staff appreciation lunches and staff retreats.
- Provide support to the Office Operations team with ongoing projects and operational initiatives, executing the goals and objectives of the function.
- Aid with budget reconciliation, in collaboration with the Senior Director of Office Operations, Managing Attorney, and Finance.
- Liaise with other organizational components and functions, and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree required.
- Minimum 3 years experience performing administrative office duties.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites (such as Teams, Excel, etc.)
- Ability to work collaboratively and multi-task in an office environment, managing numerous priorities and emerging opportunities.
- Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds, lived experiences, and communication styles.

Salary Range: $24.04 - $27.24 dependent on experience
KIND requires all staff be COVID vaccinated with the exception of those who have medical or religious beliefs exemptions.
