EDM Machinist

To set up and operate machine tools to process machine metal work pieces according to project specifications, tooling instructions and standard charts by performing the following duties.

Duties/Responsibilities:

1. Operates one or more electrical-discharge machines to shape metal workpieces to specifications, following standard charts
2. Obtains from job order or verbal instructions such information as electrode to be used, depth setting, and number of work pieces or cavities to be shaped
3. Reads blueprints or job orders to obtain product specifications (dimensions and tolerances) and tooling instructions (fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut and cutting tools).
4. Applies knowledge of machining methods.
5. Positions and secures work pieces to holding devices, machine tables, chucks, centers or fixtures using clamps and wrenches.
6. Sets specified feeds, speeds and depth of cut in accordance with product specifications and tooling instructions.
7. Observes operation and verifies conformance of machined work pieces to specifications using measuring instruments such as fixed gauges, calipers, comparators and micrometers.
8. Processes production jobs as required.
9. Consults management to analyze product information to include product design capacity, purpose, and type of materials to be used in fabrication or to analyze written specifications, drawings, sketches, and verbal instructions to plan layouts and determine sequences of operations.
10. Designs fixtures, tooling and experimental parts to meet special needs.
11. Performs heat treating and welding techniques as needed.
12. Required to pass the Certified Operator program and maintain certification status.
13. Oversees performance of newly trained employees.
14. Completes production paperwork and inspection procedures as directed.
15. Maintains production logs as required.
16. Reports any discrepancies to management.
17. Maintains tools, gauges and equipment in a clean, safe and orderly manner.
18. Complies with company policies and procedures paying special attention to safety regulations.
19. Communicates effectively and participates as a team player.
20. Performs other related duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 5 years’ experience as Machinist required
