Summary:

Medical billers and coders play a vital role in the connection between health care providers, patients, and insurance companies. They are responsible for preparing, reviewing, and transmitting medical claims to insurance companies. They are responsible for making sure the medical office revenue cycle runs smoothly by following up on unpaid claims within standard billing cycle time frames, checking each insurance payment for accuracy and compliance with contract discounts.

Essential Functions:

  • Process insurance claims for reimbursement.
  • Provides necessary information to collection agencies for delinquent or past due accounts.
  • Submit audits/medical record requests to attorneys or insurance agencies as needed.
  • Reading and analyzing patient records.
  • Determine the correct codes for patient records & use correct codes for billing insurances.
  • Follow up, process payer denials/rejections.
  • Consult with patients as needed.
  • Manage detailed information.
  • Post patient payments/invoices and insurance reimbursements efficiently.
  • Determine insurance reimbursements are accurate per insurance contracts.
  • Balance all batches/money daily for medical & cosmetic.
  • Find any errors in batches & determine why they occurred.
  • Follow HIPAA guidelines, maintaining patient confidentiality and information security.
  • Communicate with physicians to clarify diagnoses or obtain additional information.

Required Education and Experience

High school diploma/GED required. Experience with medical billing and coding preferred, including knowledge of billing related reporting and systems. Familiarity with insurance companies with the understanding of claims process, appeals process, and the impact of the practice’s revenue. Adherence to laws, rules, and regulations regarding customers and data. Comfortable dealing with numbers and the processing of financial information. Knowledge of Microsoft Office. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. High degree of attention to detail with the ability to prioritize, multitask, and manage stress in a fast-paced environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $13.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
