Role Overview:
We are going through an exciting period of change and are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Engineering Squad Lead to join our Software Engineering team. As an Engineering Squad Lead, you are a technical leader as well as a line manager, encompassing a practitioner responsibility and leadership of the engineers to deliver customer outcomes and opportunities for our business. You will be expected to work with autonomy on complex features and support, guide and mentor other engineers throughout the whole development lifecycle. This role is within our browse & discover domain where we aspire to build a best-in-class retail web purchasing experience for our users using the latest technologies and software.

What's the job?
Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities:
- Accountability: Serves a crucial purpose in the agile matrix. They are the line manager of people on their squad. They help plan and orchestrate execution of the work, build a cohesive team and are accountable for delivering customer and engineering outcomes working in collaboration with product owners.
- Collaboration: They focus on continuous improvements of their squad, striving to increase their impact, effectiveness, and efficiency through the support of Chapter tooling and ways of working, while maintaining employee survey eNPS scores.
- Coach and Advisor: They provide inspiration, coaching, and feedback to team members, report back on progress to domain leaders, and focus on people development and performance to their team via the support of chapter leaders.
- Leadership: They leverage their first-hand experience to communicate their vision and shape their squad’s impact. They combine their passion for software engineering with a passion for developing and furthering their leadership skills
- Build collaborative relationships: Drive highly effective communication and engagement across banner and group teams ensuring that changes in people requirements or quality issues are discussed and agreed.
- Performance Management: Support effective performance processes for the chapter members, using the defined goal setting and objectives.
- Belonging: Foster and grow a highly collaborative and inclusive Squad that enables evolution of high performing, engaged and inclusive teams.
What you'll bring
Required Skills & Experience:
- Expert full-stack proficiency with experience working with a range of modern web technologies, languages and frameworks in both the Software Engineering and Quality Engineering space, notably Java Spring, Node.js, Vue.js and automated test frameworks such as Cypress or Selenium
- Experience working with cloud-based solutions.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, and source control systems.
- Talented people leader, coaching, mentoring, facilitation, and teaching, whilst developing a pipeline of future talent.
- Ability to decompose functional requirements into well-defined tasks while balancing quality, quantity, and complexity in work output.
- Understanding of the banner imperatives and service requirements of retail or similar organisations.
- Experience of shaping, motivating, and driving change within a large, complex, matrix and fast-moving environment.
- Excellent stakeholder management & influencing skills at all levels of the organisation with great communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
- Effective and creative problem-solving and decision-making with the ability to navigate complexity and ambiguity to quickly identify simple/effective solutions.
