The Analytics & Actuarial team at Kinsale is responsible for all the analytical work done at the company including actuarial pricing, reserving, capital modeling, catastrophe modeling, data science, KPIs, and reinsurance. Ultimately, we are interested in assembling the best team possible, which means you do not need experience in all the areas above to be considered. Your prior experience and areas of interest will determine your specific responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Your prior experience and areas of interest will play a large role in determining your responsibilities. Possible technical responsibilities include:
- Performing aggregate pricing analyses for various insurance products
- Fine-tuning rating variables using both internal and external data
- Developing rating plans for new insurance products
- Catastrophe modeling including analyzing the raw model output
- KPIs and operational reporting
- Analyzing the profitability of underwriting divisions
- Reserve analyses for various lines of business
- Reinsurance analyses for various lines of business
- Utilizing third-party data to enhance existing pricing algorithms
- Predictive modeling and machine learning
Other responsibilities include:
- Communicating results to others, both inside and outside of the department
- Managing multiple projects at once and meeting various deadlines as required
- Taking ownership of your work – performing reasonability checks and accuracy checks prior to sharing results
- Performing technical reviews for others
- Being able to complete moderately challenging tasks independently
- Serving as a technical resource for newer team members
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 2 years experience in an actuarial or similar role
- Very strong Excel skills
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Creative analytical and problem-solving skills
- Responsive, internally motivated, and able to work independently
A compelling candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a quantitative field
- 3 actuarial exams with a desire to obtain actuarial credentials
- Prior experience in commercial insurance
- Very strong SQL skills
- Programming knowledge in Python or R also a plus
