POSITION TITLE: Employment Specialist
REPORTS TO: Workforce Development Manager
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
COMPENSATION: $24.00 - $26.50 per hour (DOE)
LOCATION: San Diego, CA

Position Summary:
The Employment Specialist is pivotal in connecting individuals in our Apprenticeship program with meaningful employment opportunities in the hospitality sector to ensure successful completion of the on-the-job training (OJT) portion of their apprenticeship. The Employment Specialist works one-on-one with Apprentices to support them in securing employment, leveraging relationships with KFG Employer Partners and providing guidance on self-guided job search techniques. The Employment Specialist continues to provide support to Apprentices during the first 90 days of their job to support successful job retention.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Work directly with Apprentice to understand their skill set and criteria for placement.
- Match Apprentices with job openings at Employer Partners based on skill set and cultural fit.
- Schedule interviews with Employer Partners and facilitate job offers/wages for Apprentices.
- Provide Apprentices with support on self-guided job search techniques, such as assistance with job applications and interview preparation.
- Assist with re-placement of current and former apprentices
- Serve as the primary contact for Apprentices during the first 90 days of employment.
- Build and maintain relationships with the Apprentices to ensure their success during their placement with Employee Partner. Maintain frequent communication with Apprentices to ensure that they are receiving all the support they need to retain employment with Employee Partner.
- Interface between the employer and apprentice, to ensure expectations are met and exceeded for all parties.
- Provide support and troubleshooting when an apprentice has performance issues at their job.
- Collaborate with Career Service Coordinators to ensure that apprentices get additional training as needed to succeed in their job.
- Meet placement metrics and retention rates.
- Manage the onboarding and off boarding of Apprentices.
- Maintain accurate records in our applicant tracking and CRM system.

Education & Work Experience:
- Minimum high school graduate or equivalent
- 2 years of experience in workforce development or equivalent fields
- 2 years in Hospitality Industry preferred
- Familiarity with workforce development programs that serve individuals with barriers to employment.
- Bilingual- Spanish (highly desired)
- Proficient experience and knowledge in Microsoft office 365 programs (Excel, Word, Power Point, One Drive, and Share Point).
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
In addition to the office, this job occasionally operates in a kitchen environment housed with equipment such as an oven, stove, dishwasher, slicer, coffee machine, steamer, mixer and chef’s knives. The employee is frequently exposed to heat steam, fire and noise.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The employee is occasionally required to sit, stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push, and pull items weighing 25 pounds or less. The position requires manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills, and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
Position Type & Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time, non-exempt position scheduled at 40 hours a week. On occasion may include weekend and evening shifts. The position is eligible for the organization's hybrid work policy, which would allow the individual to work from home 2 days a week and 3 days in the office.
Travel:
Travel as required, up to 50 %, mostly local. Employee must have a valid driver’s license in good standing, reliable transportation, ability to work across multiple sites, ability to operate vehicle in a variety of weather and traffic conditions, and a good driving record with no traffic violations
