MAIN FUNCTION:
The Nurse Manager of Perioperative Services is responsible for coordinating the clinical operations in the Operating Room, Same Day Surgery and Endoscopy departments. The Nurse Manager holds 24-hour, 7-day a week responsibility and accountability for the clinical management of the nursing unit. This position reports to the Director, Perioperative Services and operates within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from an accredited nursing school or equivalent education/experience required; Master's degree preferred
- Current Massachusetts licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) required
Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years current clinical experience required
- Current CPR certification required; CNOR certification preferred
- Demonstrated leadership skills and excellent clinical competence, including proficiency in nursing and improvement processes, required.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, team-building, collaboration, negotiation, problem-solving, as well as oral and written communication skills required AGE SPECIFIC STANDARDS - check all that apply Must be able to effectively interact appropriately to an individual’s intellectual level and physical ability.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assume responsibility for the development of personnel to meet patient care goals in a changing health care environment.
- Serve as a role model for staff by demonstrating clinical expertise when providing direct patient care.
- Support the implementation of nursing philosophy, standards of care, risk management guidelines and patient and staff education.
- Assure regulatory compliance as appropriate to the unit.
- Inspect area daily for compliance with policies, procedures, regulations and standards and take immediate corrective action when violations occur.
- Monitor and evaluate delivery of patient care. Collaborate with OR, Surgical Day Care and Endoscopy teams to identify and implement improvement opportunities.
- Work with the Perioperative Services Director in assessing available resources to provide patient care. Recommend changes in staffing numbers and mix based on unit needs and cost.
- Promote development of clinical practice based on research and evidence. Collaborate with OR, SDC and Endoscopy team members on patient care, including identifying potential barriers and variances to the plan of care.
- Mediate problems involving patient/families, hospital personnel, and the public. Collaborate with affiliating agencies and the Education Department to provide educational opportunities.
- Participate in the design of the Quality Assurance and Improvement Program for the Perioperative Services. Implement unit-based plan.
- Engage staff in quality activities in order to measure, assess and improve clinical outcomes.
- Bring closure to issues/suggestions raised by patients or other disciplines to improve patient care.
- Collaborate in developing operational and capital budget which supports the goals of the hospital and assigned cost center(s).
- Effectively plan and monitor the use of fiscal resources, ensuring timely analysis and response to budget variances.
- Maintain staff awareness regarding fiscal responsibility in delivering quality patient care.
- Participate in the implementation of marketing and public relations initiatives. Promote a professional nursing practice model.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of a unit-based competency system. Conduct/coordinate employment interviews and select personnel appropriate to meet unit(s) needs.
