The Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority is seeking a Senior Accountant to be based in their Portland, ME office.

Requirements of the Senior Accountant:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field or similar work experience.
Minimum of three years of experience in public sector environment
Strong critical thinking skills.
Experience in gathering and analyzing financial information and developing actionable recommendations to the leadership team.
Proficiency in Excel and financial management software; Sage and ADP preferred.
Aptitude for professional growth and development, potential to lead and mentor junior team member(s).
Ability to commute to Portland Monday through Friday. Possibility for a hybrid schedule after 6 months of employment.
Benefits of the Job:
Annual pay in the range of: $65,000 - $80,000

Responsibilities of the Senior Accountant:
Guide the fiscal management of the Authority including accounting, financial compliance, audit, management of grant revenues, and reporting functions in accordance with recognized accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
Demonstrate a firm understanding of accounting concepts and principles, internal controls, and best practices in finance/accounting.
Assist in the development, management and continual monitoring of the annual operating and capital projects budgets.
Reconcile accounts, maintain general ledger, prepare financial information, formulate corrections, and make adjusting entries.
Analyze and verify the accuracy of various financial documents. Provide advanced quantitative and qualitative financial analyses as needed.
Assist in the development of financial policies and procedures and ensure proper implementation throughout the organization.
Remain current and engaged in subject matter through networking and peer relationships with Federal Transit Administration, Federal Railroad Administration and other funding partners or transportation providers.
Excellent quantitative and qualitative analytical skills with proven ability to manage multiple projects and work independently.
Strong communication skills both oral and written with ability to work cooperatively and effectively with individuals at various levels within and outside the organization.
Ability to work in a fast paced and challenging environment with minimal supervision.
