Responsibilities
I. Document Preparation & Processing:
- Examine, prepare, and process a variety of technical legal documents that are voluminous and complex in format
- Review incoming material and determine the need for assembly and preparation of various legal documents
- Assist in drafting legal documents (e.g. complaints, motions, orders, answers, pleadings, subpoenas, and warrants)
- Obtain needed information from files, law enforcement agencies, courts, and other sources
- Submit completed legal documents to the appropriate AUSA or directly to the court when necessary
- Prepare various legal documents (e.g., indictment, pleadings, complaints, motions, search warrants, judgments, etc.)
- Provide aid during trial prep by compiling trial notebooks, witness and exhibit lists
- Assemble jury instructions
- Use original and online legal resources to verify citations and statutory references in legal documents
- Prepare tables of contents and indices to briefs to ensure proper formatting of citations and references
- Greet visitors and receive telephone calls
- Furnish requested information concerning pending and closed matters/cases, functions, and general office procedures
- Determine which matters should be referred to the AUSA and the urgency of the matter
- Establish and maintain a variety of files, search legal reference files, and assemble exhibits, affidavits, etc. from file
- Perform docketing duties such as opening, updating, and closing cases through an automated case-tracking system
- Search databases for required information
- Maintain a calendar of assigned active cases, tracking filing, hearing, and trial dates
- Schedule conferences and interviews
- Maintain a suspense system for ongoing cases
- Maintain the AUSA’s calendar, schedule appointments, interviews, and conferences
- Provide reminders of commitments and court appearances
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat Professional
- Proficient in word processing, document management, and review file management systems
- Proficient with office technology (e.g., computers, fax machines, copier machines, etc.)
- Ability to meet established deadlines
- Ability to multitask assignments and review a wide variety of documents
- Strong organizational skills
- 2 years exp. in a professional office environment (legal setting preferred)
- Highschool Diploma or equivalent required
- Bachelor’s degree preferred

- Minimum background investigation with sensitivity Level 2 and completion of an SF86
- Department of Justice (DOJ)
- Travel may be required
