THE POSITION: Proactively and preventively maintains Solid Waste Department's largely diversified fleet of equipment and facilities in a continuous serviceable and capable condition with limited down time on equipment.
$24.49 to $29.10 per hour depending on experience

Responsible for operation of the shop and assignment of all mechanical duties at any Solid Waste location
Have your own tools and maintain an inventory of county-owned tools
Work autonomously and cooperatively with minimal supervision and able to set priorities based on equipment availability and site specific requirements
Inspects, diagnoses, operates and makes major repairs
Operate all types of shop equipment and be capable of operating heavy equipment.
Must have working knowledge of semi-tractors, trailers, loaders, backhoes, dump trucks etc.
Communicate effectively and follow instructions
Maintain a calm and professional demeanor in dealing with all types of customers
Work required schedules including rotating months, holidays, weekends and non-scheduled hours
DO YOU QUALIFY?
Do you have an Associate’s degree or Applied Associate’s degree or certification from an accredited two-year college or professional/technical school or program with a degree in Diesel/Automotive Mechanics?
Do you have a minimum of 36 months related experience and/or training?
Do you possess a valid driver’s license and are you insurable?
Are you fully familiar with OSHA standards covering shop safety, general industrial safety, pneumatic/hydraulic safety and lifting devices, lockout/tag out program and rigging?
Do you possess or have the ability to obtain a valid First Aid card and CPR certification within 1 year of employment?
Do you have the minimum of a valid Class “B” CDL? (Must obtain a Class “A” CDL with tanker endorsement within 6 months of employment)
Do you have knowledge of safety precautions, street and highway traffic rules and regulations?

40-Hour Hazardous Waste Operations (with an annual 8-hour recertification)
Waste Screening
Traffic Flagging
Confined Space Entry
Ability to obtain Heavy Equipment Operations Training
Ability to obtain CFC Removal Certification
Brake and Air Brake Inspection
Lockout Tag Out Training
