What You Will Do Here:
The Logistics Manager is responsible for overseeing the movement, distribution, and storage of materials in the organization. This position controls the flow of incoming materials and outgoing finished products to ensure customers receive products on time. The Logistics Manager oversees warehouse, inventory control, material handling, customer service, transportation, and Shipping personnel. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, hire, train and evaluate employees, prepare employee schedules, and ensure warehousing and distribution employees follow all safety rules. The position may prepare reports for upper management, negotiate shipping and supplier costs, and work to improve efficiency of the company's supply chain.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in: Logistics, Business Management, or Industrial Management, and 5 years of professional shipping & receiving experience; or equivalent work experience
- Minimum 5 years management or supervisory experience.
- Responsible for maintaining various TMS database systems related to customer shipments.
- Manages and supports staff to ensure all vendor compliance requirements for receiving and shipping are adhered to.
- Create and/or maintain policies and procedures for Shipping/Warehouse functions particularly those associated with ISO 9001 regulations.
- Manages physical inventories and cycle counts as required, resolving any inventory discrepancies.
- Negotiates and coordinates the transportation of products from multiple warehouses.
- Assists with freight and broker negotiations as well as signs off on freight invoices (selection, qualifications and performance evaluations)
- Coordinates traffic needs including plates and boards, as well as negotiating applicable freight costs.
- Resolves problems concerning transportation systems, imports/exports, and customer issues
- Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of workers.
- Analyzes financial impact of proposed logistic charges (routing, shipping modes, etc.)
- Manage company owned/leased truck and trailers for in-house freight movement between warehouse locations.
- Confronting climate change issues by implementing transportation strategies.
- Communicate effectively with clients and customers; responding to the requirements.
- Prepares and communicates data related to monthly shipment goals, as needed.
- Maintains efficient workflow by holding direct reports accountable for quality and efficiency of their work.
- Ensures correct receipt of raw materials or returned finished goods and the transfer of product to appropriate organization function.
- Contributes ideas for development of metrics and sets attainable, action-oriented goals for teams.
- Participates in daily production meetings.
- Issues clear and professional written and oral instructions, as needed.
- Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of employees.
- Ensures correct shipment of international orders and hazardous material orders.
- Coordinate year-end physical inventory and auditor reviews of raw materials and finished goods.
- On-call availability and periodic overtime
- Performs all other related duties, as assigned.
- Working knowledge of MS Office Word, Access, Project and standard industry operations software and databases.
- Proficient knowledge in Excel and ERP systems.
- Advanced knowledge of shipping/warehouse processes, systems, and requirements.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong negotiating skills.
- Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
- Exceptionally self-motivated
