What are the responsibilities and job description for the Graduate Nurse position at KVC Health Systems?
The Graduate Nurse collaboratively assists as an active member of the nursing team to provide care to the clients served. The Graduate Nurse expedites all matters pertaining to the immediate, routine, and emergency medical/psychiatric needs of the clients in collaboration with a Registered Nurse. The Graduate Nurse, in collaboration with a Registered Nurse is responsible for coordination with contract healthcare providers, providing direct medical care to clients, records maintenance, and other related nursing activities.
Graduate Nurse Practice
You can only work as a Graduate Nurse after you graduate an accredited nursing program and until
1) you receive results of your first exam OR
2) 90 days after your graduation date; whichever of these situations occurs first.
You are a graduate after you have completed ALL degree requirements and have officially graduated from your nursing program.
The Graduate Nurse must practice under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse
Major Duties:
- Provides/coordinates routine and emergency medical/psychiatric treatment in a timely manner with services are required
- Assures quality of care by following Great Circle policies, The Joint Commission standards, Centers for Medicare, and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the standards of care set by Missouri state board of nursing, and the Missouri state nurse practice act
- Adheres to infection control policies and practices
- Maintains various records of accountability within established time frames
- Transcribes physician’s orders appropriately
- Enters all orders, assessments, and records into electronic health record in a timely manner and keeps records updated with current client orders, immunizations, and information
- Administers medications appropriately, and free from error to clients
- Monitors medication effectiveness and adverse reactions. Reports findings to all involved in client’s care
- Participates in various medical/psychiatric meetings and consultation sessions
- Maintains continuity among clients’ team by documenting and communicating assessments, observations, reports, and continuing needs
- Maintain a cooperative relationship among clients’ team by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport
- Keeps Credible updated with current resident orders, immunizations, and information
- Protects and maintains confidential client information.
- Other duties as assigned for the betterment of the agency
Education:
- Nursing Degree from an accredited Nursing School (ADN or BSN)
Licensure/Certification:
- The Graduate Nurse must pass the nursing licensure exam with 90 days of hire
Qualifications:.
- Possesses a current, valid MO driver's license and meets the requirements for driver’s insurance.
- Safe Crisis Management (SCM) qualified.
- American Heart Association First Aid and CPR qualified.
- Restraint training qualified.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and computer skills
- Demonstrated ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language proficiently.
- Ability to use independent judgment and manage confidential information.
- Ability to operate in a challenging, ever-changing, multidisciplinary team environment.
