L.A. Hearne Company is seeking an agronomically-minded individual with experience in strawberry production to join our fertilizer sales team. The ideal applicant will also have experience in account development and account management.
Responsibilities:
Maintain a clear understanding of agronomy with an emphasis on soil and plant health and nutrition
Cooperate with management and staff to establish sales goals, product margins, product pricing, etc.
Develop and maintain an understanding of our product line and each product’s purpose and use
Initiate contact and develop relationships with potential customers
Create and execute agronomic plans and practices to support on-farm activities and goals
Interpret soil and tissue reports to make sound agronomic recommendations to growers
Foster relationships with customers and/or their purchasing agents to initiate and maintain sales of our products
Maintain good working relationships with other sales representatives, field personnel, and administrative personnel
Stay abreast of industry current events, regulatory change, and market conditions
Investigate opportunities to bring beneficial and profitable products into our product line
Aid in the evaluation of products – current and potential
Work with other staff members to promote training and education on plant and soil nutrition and health. Be a resource for others.
Foster beneficial relationships with our vendors
Maintain or attain licensing (CCA, PCA, Training Certs, etc.) to establish legitimacy with customers and for industry compliance
Support the fertilizer enterprise, as well as other enterprises, to maximize sales and service to our customers
Qualifications:
Minimum of 2 or more years of experience
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Strong attention to detail
Ability to multi-task while working in a fast-paced setting
Position Requirements:
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Must be willing and able to travel throughout our service area (Santa Cruz County, San Benito County, Monterey County, San Luis Obispo County, Santa Barbara County) and to additional areas of opportunity when necessary.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit for long periods of time
Ability to stand for long periods of time
Ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Bilingual (English, Spanish) a plus
