L.O. Eye Care is seeking a full-time Clinical Supervisor for our in East Lansing, MI location. Interested candidates must work well with others, show leadership qualities, organizational and time management skills, a positive attitude and dependability.
Summary
The Clinical Supervisor will plan, organize, lead, and monitor the operational functions of the assigned clinical areas. Responsible for oversight and management of patient scheduling, testing, examinations, and follow-up.
Supervisory responsibilities
This role oversees department or location specific accountabilities. Is responsible for daily, weekly, monthly, and other objectives and performance outcomes.
Essential functions
The following list is a summary of the key functions of the job and may not be inclusive of all duties assigned.
- Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the ophthalmic assistants, ophthalmic technicians, senior ophthalmic technicians, patient coordinator, senior patient coordinator.
- Monitors and helps maintain efficient flow of patients through the clinical and reception areas. Works with clinic providers regarding clinical flow, identifies issues and facilitates solutions as needed.
- Performs duties of ophthalmic technician or patient coordinator as needed to assist with clinical flow.
- Regularly communicates with staff on updates, changes, EHR, coding etc. through use of email and/or regular staff meetings with preparation of agenda items and completion of meeting minutes.
- Works collaboratively with Human Resources to hire qualified candidates for clinical job opportunities through internal and external advertisements, effective interview techniques and appropriate reference validation.
- Functions as trainer and continuing education advocate, informing staff of upcoming seminars, COA/COT opportunities and coordinate internal provider tech training sessions throughout the year.
- Functions as a resource for clinical and reception staff to address concerns and ask questions.
- Functions as clinical equipment resource personnel, helping to assure quality and economical maintenance of equipment, calibration of equipment as necessary and purchasing of new equipment.
- Performance management: evaluates assigned staff, implements company practices regarding performance appraisal system and compensation increases.
- Coaches employees and counsels as necessary, up to and including termination of employment.
- Monitors employee hours worked, including daily punch in and punch out times; transfers to other locations, voluntary time off, paid time off, FMLA and other absences. Adjusts staffing according to clinical demands.
- Prepares daily schedules for clinical staff, allowing for staff time off requests and making periodic adjustments as necessary.
- Develops and monitors clinical quality objectives, chart audits prior to every evaluation in addition to periodic chart audits.
- Assists billing department in training and communication of coding issues to clinical staff, attempting to assure accurate and complete encounter documentation for efficient billing.
- Works cooperatively with other clinical and non-clinical leadership to ensure coordinated efforts across teams.
- Pursues developmental activities to maintain and enhance management and ophthalmic or technical skills.
- Implement and maintain HIPAA regulations, appropriate documentation and system controls, and necessary training and enforcement.

Work environment
- Public/Patient environment with typical public and patient exposure and scenarios.
Physical demands/potential hazards
- Required to maintain a physical condition consistent with bending, lifting, stacking, and rotating daily for prolonged periods. Required to lift and move items 50 pounds and/or unusually shaped equipment.
- Must be able to walk, stand, and move around for the majority of the day; may be required to lift equipment up to 50 pounds and assist patients with physical mobility.
Travel required
- 0-25% travel required.
Education and experience
Educational requirements that are job-related and consistent with business necessity
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Bachelor's Degree in industry or related field preferred.
- Three years’ experience required in an ophthalmic setting.
- Valid proof of certification as a certified ophthalmic assistant (COA) required.
- COT or COMT certification desired
Leadership and management experience
Leadership requirements that are job-related and consistent with business necessity
- One year of experience supervising others.
