Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Student Nutrition Director, the Student Nutrition Training Specialist assists with the delivery and implementation of the district-wide school nutrition programs and services. Plans, directs, and coaches Student Nutrition staff in the management of kitchen efficiencies and operations. Provides on-site operations training, coaching, and guidance for Student Nutrition staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential functions of this position may include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:
- Oversees, evaluates, directs, and trains Student Nutrition staff as it relates to operational functions including but not limited to staff training, inventory control, new recipe development and testing, and point of sale support.
- Provides on-site training and orientation for new employees.
- Plans and organizes training opportunities with the district including Back to School workshop and classes: Nutrition Building Blocks, Serv Safe, and other classes as needed.
- Provides support with Professional Standards and Certification requirements.
- Assists in the successful implementation of policies and procedures on a site level.
- Assists the Student Nutrition Coordinator with the development and testing of new recipes. Assists with sampling of new menu items with students.
- Assists the Student Nutrition Coordinator with promotional events in Student Nutrition.
- Coordinates catering event requests, including costing and billing.
- Creates signage and marketing tools for display in kitchens and cafeterias.
- Maintains, compiles, and reports school inventories. Supports kitchen managers with inventory control and turnover.
- Maintains Student Nutrition software including regular updates to pricing, inventory, and point of sale. Provides software and hardware support and training for Student Nutrition staff.
- Prints student badges for meal service as needed.
- Identifies opportunities for improving service delivery methods, staff training opportunities, kitchen processes, and procedures.
- Provides relief for Student Support Specialist and Cook Managers as assigned by the Student Nutrition Director.
- Fills in as back up for daily deposit reconciliation for Student Nutrition.
- Maintains meal order form for Crystal Lake Education Center.
- Conducts regular on-site reviews of kitchen operations.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Nutrition.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Specific training or job experience required before appointment):
- High School diploma or equivalent education.
- Strong culinary skills and an ability to apply them to a K-12 school setting.
- Must obtain a Certified Food Protection Manager license through the State of Minnesota within 60 days of employment.
- Must obtain Serv Safe instructor and proctor certification within 4 months of employment.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and own personal vehicle to travel within district boundaries.
- Strong computer and technology skills required in Google apps, Excel, Word, and Point of Sale software.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to rapidly acquire new knowledge and skills.
- Demonstrated school nutrition program experience and knowledge of National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program regulations.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a high focus on customer service.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills.
- Ability to work accurately, independently and as a team member and able to problem solve and think on your feet.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
2. 3-5 years of experience in School Nutrition kitchens.
