What are the responsibilities and job description for the Testing Specialist position at Lamar Institute of Technology?

The Testing Specialist’s job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, participating in the administration and support of the Testing Center. This position reports to the Coordinator of Testing Center. The position requires assisting with placement testing, national licensure and certificate testing for students, prospective students and the community. Responsibilities include proctoring, data entry, registering clients for testing, maintaining testing records and developing reports. The Testing Specialist must earn and maintain certifications to administer exams, adhere to hardware/software requirements for each exam administered and assist with updates as needed. This position is considered non-exempt.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serves as the front office person greeting guests (in person, email and phone) with a professional, helpful and friendly demeanor.
  • Proctor exams, data entry, register clients for testing, and maintain testing records.
  • Maintains LIT’s and testing companies’ policies and procedures.
  • Administers secure national and state exams and enforces testing rules and regulations.
  • Reports misconduct and irregularities to appropriate department, vendor and testing staff.
  • Maintains confidentiality and attention to detail in securing testing materials and records.
  • Performs updates to testing software, as required by testing companies.
  • Maintains paperwork and current data records on computer and keeps confidential records in accordance with institutional policies and testing mandates.
  • Participates in training of staff assigned to the Testing Center.
  • Serves on college-wide committees, task forces, advisory committees and outside agencies, as assigned.
  • Assists in the planning, organizing, scheduling, ordering and returning of testing materials, and the maintenance of the Testing Center schedule, rooms, offices and computers.
  • Ensures the testing environment meets requirements of vendors, i.e. temperature, noise level, seating, etc.
  • Assists with presentations to groups regarding the services provided by the Testing Center.
  • Completes purchase requisitions, order forms, weekly and monthly reports, and travel documents, as needed.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations governing testing and online education, including FERPA
  • Knowledge and experience using standard office equipment is required. Must be comfortable with using computers.

  • Assists with billing clients in a timely manner and assists with collections, as needed.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and handle stressful situations professionally and at time of an incident.
  • Must not need to take any tests offered at Testing Center, as testing vendors have restrictions, nor may Testing Specialist oversee testing of anyone they have a vested interest in.


Physical Requirements:
This position requires the ability to: remain in a stationary position for most of the time; occasionally move about inside an office to access documents, office equipment, etc.; constantly operate a computer or other office equipment, such as a printer or copy machine; and frequently move throughout facilities and campus (including outdoors).
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Documented experience in post-secondary testing practices and requirements or two years of documented experience in a field related to testing.
  • Working knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and business correspondence.
  • Math skills sufficient to calculate scores and other basic calculations.
  • Exceptional customer service skills in person and on the telephone
  • Must be able to multi-task, prioritize and have a keen sense of attention to detail.
  • Must be able to trouble shoot computer issues and misconduct concerns and resolve in a timely manner.
  • Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office (Excel and Word)
