POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Job Developer conducts and oversees all efforts and activites aimed at developing, cultivating and maintaining working relationships with potential employers to identify employment opportunities for participants and/or current staff with disabilities. This includes traditional job placements methods as well as customized employment practices. Works within a cross-department team within LP to match individuals seeking employment with the employment opportunities identified while considering strengths and interests of each inidivdiual along with the tasks associated with each job identified. The Job Developer supports the mission, vision and values of the organization, and upholds and enforces the guidelines and policies of the organization and demonstrates Lanakila Pacific’s values of teamwork, excellence, achievement, motivation and Lanakila in all personal interactions with others and exemplifies Lanakila’s STAR service standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Position Specific Duties

  • Assist participants in obtaining competitive employment by identifying and developing new and varied employment opportunities.
  • Research employment trends, including emerging industries, industries with projected growth, and types of employment with the highest level of need.
  • Connect with local businesses through networking and cold calling.
  • Obtain and maintain certification in Customized Employment practices.
  • Implementing Customized Employment practices, such as informational interviews and job carving.
  • Coordinate and assist with online and in person applications, informal and formal interviews, and support participants to navigate the onboarding process with employers.
  • Provide ongoing support to participants and their employers including the identification of problem areas and provide recommendations.
  • Participate in resolving workplace issues with participants and their circle of support by serving as an advocate for the employer
  • Establish and develop community contacts and promote Employment Services to potential employers which includes presentations and education on the benefits of hiring individuals with disabilities.
  • Coordinate benefits planning.
  • Continuously work with the Employment Services Assistant Manager to uphold ethical standards, program policies and procedures, and best practice treatment standards.
  • Advocate on behalf of the participants for their safety and health and other support services with state agencies, Hawaii Disability Rights Center and Independent Living organizations to ensure continuity of support beyond LP’s services as needed.
  • Communicates performance issues of Employment Services job coaches to Employment Services Assistant Manager
  • Provides ongoing training to job coaches as needed or required

Other Duties:

  • Demonstrates cultural competency and the ability to interact effectively with people of different cultures, socio-economic backgrounds, and cognitive abilities without bias.
  • Serves as a role model for the staff, participants, and volunteers and as a member of the leadership team works to create a healthful and respectful environment.
  • Ensures all safety procedures and practices are followed and enforced, and that safeguards and proper safety gear, such as gloves, are used when appropriate.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work with confidential information and comply with established policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to gain and possess thorough knowledge of Lanakila Pacific’s programs and seeks ongoing educational opportunities related to the position.
  • Performs other reasonably related business duties as assigned.
  • Completes training as mandated by organizational policy.

WORKING CONDITIONS/HOURS:

  • Scheduled to work 5 days a week. Monday to Friday,7:30 am-4:30 pm. 8-hour shift may vary.May be required to work outside of normal business hours including weekends and holidays to meet operational needs and contract requirements.
  • Indoor, office setting, outdoors; may need to do deliveries, travel to other program sites, meeting sites, etc., as required.

EQUIPMENT USE:

  • Basic level proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Database, or comparable programs or other comparable programs
  • Other standard office equipment such as computer, laptop, copy machine, printer, fax machine, projector, etc.
  • Company vehicle.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, social sciences, or human services from an accredited college or university; OR Bachelor’s degree in another field from an accredited college or university and one year of experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Clearance/Certification: Must maintain the following clearances/certification: 1) annual TB clearance, 2) current First Aid and CPR Certification (Obtain on the job), 3) Criminal Background check, 4) Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, 5) Child Protective Service check/Adult Protective Service check, 6) Fieldprint Fingerprinting, 7) List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (LEIE)
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving abstract with access to an insured vehicle.

Preferred:

  • Experience: Working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, marketing, networking, and Customized Employment.
