Professional/Technical Supervisor - Family & Child Health Nursing

Lane County
Eugene, OR Other
POSTED ON 5/13/2024

About this Position
This is a new nursing supervisor position which will be one of three supervisors in the Family and Child Health (FCH) Section with Lane County Public Health. Family & Child Health envisions Lane County as a place where all families are healthy, stable, and safe, and are part of a community that encourages, empowers, and supports families and individuals to thrive through connection to supportive resources.

The Mission of Family & Child Health is to nurture the well-being and health of Lane County families by promoting equity, honoring diversity of individual experiences, and supporting community connections and healthy family relationships.

The FCH section works to support pregnant individuals and families with young children with a diverse array of services including multiple home visiting programs.

The FCH section operates with a shared leadership model with three supervisors collaborating and sharing responsibility for all program deliverables. Within this model, each position has primary domains of responsibility.

This position will supervise two teams of registered nurses:
  1. An existing team of registered nurses implementing Oregon’s Babies First and CaCoon Nurse Home Visiting Programs: Babies First and CaCoon are long term, relationship based, home visiting based services for low-income parents of multiple children or parents of children with complex special health care needs. The programs focus on family care planning, connection to community resources, improved pregnancy outcomes, and improved child development. Lane County is in the planning phase for adding community health workers to the Babies First and CaCoon programs as part of the existing team of nurses.

  2. A newly created and growing team of nurses implementing Family Connects Oregon:  Family Connects is a universally offered, brief service, focused on one postpartum home visit with a registered nurse for all new birthing parents or parents of adopted newborns in Lane County. Nurses will conduct a focused screening and assessment of the family and provide nursing education, community-based referrals, and brief case management to connect families with resources.

Services and systems supported by the other two FCH supervisors include:

  • Healthy Families Oregon
  • Nurse-Family Partnership
  • MIECHV Systems Coordination
  • Title V Policy Implementation
  • Reproductive Health Access Assurance
This position will be launching and implementing the Oregon Family Connects Program which is a new program in Lane County. This will include hiring and training employees, developing team cohesion, creating policies and procedures, assuring implementation in alignment with program requirements and best practices. Additionally, this position will be instrumental in exploring the potential for including traditional health workers within existing programs of the FCH section.

In addition to direct supervision duties, the candidate will serve on the Public Health leadership team as a part of the Healthy Communities Unit. Supervisors contribute to the strategic planning and implementation of key initiatives including public health modernization, performance management and quality improvement.
