What are the responsibilities and job description for the Product Metallurgist position at Larson Forgings?
Responsible for ensuring product is manufactured in accordance with the company's quality system and meets customer specifications and contract requirements.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for continuous personal improvement to positively affect department and corporate goals.
- Work with Plex, Larson's ERP manufacturing software, to perform necessary, daily duties.
- Look for areas in need of improvement. Suggest and advocate recommendations.
- Assist in reviewing all specifications/revisions and update Plex system with customer specs, r/m specs, etc.
- Assist in reviewing shop orders/travelers for adherence to applicable specifications/requirements of the customer and the proper manufacturing processes.
- Assist with the development of fixed processes.
- Perform lab functions as assigned by management.
- Assist in failure analysis as required.
- Provide technical support and recommendations to the inside/outside sales group and to customers when required.
- Assist in responsibilities related to Nadcap Certification including policies, work instructions and audits.
- Assist in internal and external audits.
- Assist in overseeing subcontractor and other external testing.
- Assist in all lab functions.
- Assist in metallurgical/technical investigations of product quality issues for raw material or Larson products.
- Generate basic drawings using AutoCAD or other company approved software.
- Keep work area neat and orderly.
- Receive, understands and follows all written and oral instruction.
- Communicate all concerns and other work related issues to supervisor.
- Complete all paperwork and electronic entry associated with position.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures including safety and attendance requirements.
- Other duties required to meet company needs as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Skills, Education & Abilities
- Degree in related field such as Metallurgy, Material & Science or Technical.
- Ability to read and interpret specifications including technical drawings, blue prints, GDT.
- Good communication skills including the ability to receive oral and written instruction and provide information to internal and external customers, visitors, vendors and employees.
- Strong ability to pay attention to details.
- Self-starter with the ability to prioritize and organize work.
Minimum Physical Requirements
- 20/40 vision required with or without correction.
- Ability to hear and speak 100% of the workday.
- Use of hands 100% of the workday.
- Sedentary position, ability to sit and work at a workstation for 8 hours.
- Ability to lift, push, pull and carry up to 50 pounds frequently during the workday without assistance.
- Frequent walking, lifting, bending, stooping, twisting.
- Typical of a manufacturing environment. Exposure to dust, fumes, noise and vibration on a regular basis.
