REPORTS TO: Community Healing Initiative Manager

CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time, 1.0 FTE

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

LOCATION: Rockwood Office 

COMPENSATION: $41,000 - $43,000 Annually Based on experience

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Latino Network seeks a bilingual, bi-cultural mission-driven professional with proven nonprofit and community experience to lead a full range of activities for a growing organization. As part of a dedicated team working toward a shared vision, the Community Healing Initiative Mentor is charged with understanding the needs of the high-risk youth and implementing the mentorship plan for referred youth. This is a roll-up-your-sleeves position with the capacity to impact the wellbeing of adjudicated youth. POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Community Healing Initiative mentors adjudicated Latino youth in the CHI program at a ratio of 1:15. The position requires regular strengths based, pro-social, and positive cultural identity interaction with youth to support their success both in meeting probation plans and developing positive future plans. The position also requires regular interaction with community members, partner organizations and institutions, as well as attendance at community events and meetings. This position works closely with the CHI team as well as the Multnomah County Juvenile Court Counselor assigned to the youth to understand the needs of the youth being mentored. Excellent community engagement skills, attention to detail as well as excellent communication through one on one meetings, phone, e-mail, and group communication with Latino Network community partners, staff and program participants is a requirement. 


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop a trusting relationship with assigned youth and their family.
  • Regular consistent contact and visits with youth.
  • Responsible for oversight of specifically assigned adjudicated youth.
  • Support youth in developing positive coping skills from a strengths-based perspective.
  • Coordinate with Program Manager, Juvenile Court Counselor, and other partners to ensure youth is supported with treatment services and community resources and assist with this as needed.
  • Support youth in making positive choices.
  • Assist in helping youth build the skills to advocate for themselves.
  • Attend court, school, and/or meetings as support for the youth when requested by youth and in consultation with Program Manager and Juvenile Court Counselor.
  • Model and encourage direct, professional communication.
  • Help plan, schedule, implement/lead mentor support group meetings/activities/events.
  • Support other CHI activities, events and programs developed to encourage and maintain positive relationships with CHI families and youth so they may fully benefit from the program.
  • Maintain organized client records.
  • Data entry into Latino Network case management software.
  • Ensure absolute confidentiality with respect to all information regarding our youth and families.
  • Attend CHI weekly staff meetings, staffing for assigned youth, and all training required.
  • Submit accurate, timely reports as requested by Program Manager and/or Program Director.
  • Properly document and submit program expenditures in a timely manner.
  • Perform any additional duties as directed by the Program Manager.
  • Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Maintains punctual, regular and predictable attendance
  • Respectfully takes direction from the supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

By nature of our service to k-12 school districts, this position is subject to the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) mandate requiring all employees to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or qualification for a medical or religious exemption.  By applying for this position, you represent you meet these job requirements. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 3 years combined education, training and experience in the following fields of study: social work, education,  public/community health, etc. or a related field. Examples of experience, education and training that fulfill this requirement include, but are not limited to, volunteer or paid work, internships, community-based training and workshops, community college, trade school, university courses and degrees. Experience, training and education from inside and outside of the United States are considered equally. Transferable skills and lived experience will be considered
  • Bilingual: Fluent in Spanish and English and able to communicate in a professional manner in both languages.
  • Knowledge of culturally based world-view and problem solving practices of Latino individuals and families in urban and rural neighborhoods impacted by crime, poverty, and racial inequity.
  • Bi-cultural proficiency: Personal lived experience of target population preferred. 
  • Ability to advocate for others and problem solve.
  • Experience working with Latino youth and families facing multiple barriers.
  • Experience and ability to work from a strengths based perspective and serve as motivation for positive change.
  • Ability to handle difficult and sensitive situations and information in a calm and professional manner.
  • Working knowledge of the challenges and barriers faced by system-impacted youth, including physical and mental health, disability, substance abuse, behavior, and other barriers to healthy engagement and adjustment.
  • Ability or expressed desire to work in a multi-disciplinary and cross-jurisdictional team with shared clients.
  • Experience in designing and implementing programs for Latino community is preferred.
  • Experience in teaching life skills, development of life skills group curriculum, and facilitating skills groups with juveniles and families.
  • Knowledge of key education institutions, resources, programs, social services and government agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with governmental partners, youth, families, community support systems.
  • Strong organizational, time management and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a collaborative team member, and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated consistency in following instructions and implementing strategies.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptive to successfully achieve the functions of the position as described in the job responsibilities.
  • Evening and weekend availability may sometimes be required, and work hours are flexible to accommodate program implementation; long hours during peak periods.
  • Reliable transportation required and the ability to meet individuals in their own homes, academic settings, and other community settings, including transporting participants as needed.
  • Automobile liability insurance preferred; must be eligible to be an insured driver under Latino Network’s Commercial Auto Liability.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Latino Network is a highly engaged work environment with satellite operations and positions performing work both onsite and remotely. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold (non-weather) and extreme heat (non-weather). This position requires frequent computer use. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
