- Drafting correspondence, court documents, estate planning documents, and preparing deeds by using the firm's customized forms (we do not use form builder software and have our own forms)
- Drafting pleadings, applications, motions, and other court documents and finalizing such documents for filing with the court
- Organizing client files, both paper and electronic
- Docketing (Scheduling) events (meetings, hearings, etc.)
- Filling out legal forms for the court and clients
- Making thorough researches about laws and judicial decisions, about current as well as past cases
- Helping attorneys prepare cases for hearings
- Communicating with clients with updates and gathering information
- Assisting at estate planning signings and other client meetings
- Researching public records in support of clients’ estate matters
- Coordinating court appearances by the attorney and other responses to the court by conferring with court staff and opposing parties
- Case management—working with the Firms’ attorneys to track all cases/client matters are timely proceeding through each phase and anticipating and coordinating the next steps in the process
- ABA-approved paralegal certificate program such as an Associate’s degree or proprietary school program in paralegal studies, Bachelor’s degree desired
- 4-6 years of Paralegal experience with at least 3 years experience in estate planning and probate required.
- Highly proficient in computer skills working with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and case management software required.
- Strong organization, critical thinking, problem-solving, and attention to detail skills required.
- Proven knowledge of the Texas Estate Code, specifically Will formalities, probate process, and Texas intestacy/inheritance laws required.
- Proven legal drafting and writing skills required (4-6 years of experience preparing near-complete drafts of petitions/applications, motions and proposed orders, real estate deeds, and all estate planning documents for attorney to finalize).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required (4-6 years experience calling on clients and probate court clerks and staff and asking questions to get to the root of the problem as well as drafting detailed written communications with specific instructions to clients concerning their matter).
- 4-6 years customer service and client care.
- 4-6 years managing multiple calendars, tracking schedules for clients, and docketing court deadlines.
- 4-6 years meeting billable hour requirements required (this job requires 120 billable hours per month).
- 4-6 years experience of strong organizational and administrative skills; ability to identify and track many tasks from start to completion required.
- Proven ability to be dependable and responsible with a great “get things done” attitude required.
- Proven knowledge and understanding of legal operations, processes, and documentation required.
