Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.Job DescriptionWe have an opening for a Postdoctoral Researcher to perform research in advanced testing techniques for numerical software. You will work collaboratively with LLNL researchers to research and develop new testing methodologies to detect and mitigate numerical errors, targeting state-of-the-art heterogeneous many-core high-performance computing (HPC) systems. This position is in the Center for Applied Scientific Computing (CASC) Division within the Computing Directorate.You will Research, design and implement tools combining static and dynamic techniques and/or formal methods to detect and mitigate numerical errors in scientific applications.Research, design and develop mechanisms to diagnose the origin of numerical errors in heterogenous systems, e.g., systems composed of CPU and GPU devices.Research, design and develop practical methods to understand how system configurations, inputs, code generation, and other factors impact the correctness of numerical software.Document research by publishing papers in peer-reviewed media and presenting papers within the DOE community and at academic conferences.Contribute to group grant proposals, including proposal presentations and preparation of proposals that will provide future research opportunities in the field, and participate in the establishment of future research directions.Pursue independent (but complementary) research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists internally and externally to define and carry out the research.Perform other duties as assigned.QualificationsRecent Ph.D. in Computer Science, or a related field.Experience in parallel computing, scientific computing, or a related field.Ability to perform research and development in static analysis techniques, dynamic analysis techniques, or formal method tools to test numerical software.Ability to conduct high-quality research and develop implementations to evaluate research ideas independently.Experience in programming C/C in a Unix/Linux environment.Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to interact in a clear and concise manner, author technical and scientific reports and papers, and deliver scientific presentations.Ability to take the initiative and have interpersonal communication skills necessary to work effectively in a dynamic team environment.Qualifications We Desire​​​​​​Experience developing program analysis techniques in the Clang/LLVM compiler.Knowledge of floating-point arithmetic and different floating-point precision formats, such as FP16, BFLOAT16, or others.Experience in parallel programming, preferably in widely used parallel programing models, such as OpenMP, CUDA, HIP and/or MPI.Additional InformationAll your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.Position InformationThis is a Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years, open to those who have been awarded a PhD at time of hire date.
