The hiring salary for this position is $65,000-$85,000. An offer will be made within this range based on competencies, experience, and internal equity.
The Lee County Library System is offering candidates the opportunity to become a part of our dedicated team at Library Processing. We are seeking a self-motivated and customer-focused team player to serve as the Adult Collection Development Manager. The ideal candidate is responsible for effectively organizing our collaborative selection model while confidently managing and overseeing the collection needs of a large library system. Under the direction of the Collection Manager, this position serves as part of the management team in the Library Processing department.
Library Processing is adjacent to the East County Regional Library in Lehigh Acres, Florida. Staff at Library Processing provide centralized services such as the selection, ordering, receiving, cataloging, and processing of collections, administration of the library’s ILS (Polaris), Interlibrary Loan, and the transfer of library materials to our 13 branches.

- Oversees multiple aspects of adult collection management including central selection and weeding of physical adult materials for the system as well as central selection for system-wide events, outreach, programming initiatives, and new/renovated library branches.
- Creates, schedules, and reviews collaborative collection orders; manages day-to-day workflow.
- Contributes to the planning and monitoring of allocated branch material budgets, monitors staff spending to ensure funds are spent efficiently and creates and analyzes collection usage reports to improve collection performance.
- Leads, trains, develops and evaluates assigned staff.
- Leads system-wide collection development meetings, conducts branch visits and communicates effectively and tactfully with branch staff and key departments to streamline collection management and improve public service delivery.
- Provides support to branch staff for collection management including selection and deselection training, analyzing existing collections, and assisting with large collection projects.
- Keeps current on trends affecting library collections and services; uses new and existing technologies to support the promotion and management of adult collections.
- Performs other duties or projects within the Library System as needed and assigned.
- Any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from an accredited graduate library school program or a closely related field.
- Two years of demonstrated leadership or management experience as a professional librarian in a public library system or a department/division of a main library.
- Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- A Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from an accredited graduate library school program.
- Two years supervising paid library staff.
- Three or more years of customer service experience in libraries.
- Prefer two years experience in selecting library materials for a mid to large-sized library system.
- Prefer experience with the staff functions of an Integrated Library System and utilizing professional resources and library vendor selection tools.
- Prefer the ability to plan, train, and supervise the work of others.
- Knowledge of library materials and collection development processes.
- Ability to work independently while exercising professional judgment.
- Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment; manage competing demands and multiple ongoing projects; able to meet deadlines while dealing with frequent change, delays or unexpected events; able to handle deadlines.
- Ability to work with staff throughout the library to promote collections to the community.
- Ability to become proficient with existing technology systems, software, and computer equipment used by the library system, adapt to new technology developments and changes, and become proficient in instructing staff on library system reports.
- Ability to bend, stretch, sit, reach, and stand for long periods of time. Ability to lift and carry objects up to 35 lbs.
- The County may require employees to make either a temporary, or long-term, permanent transfer to another library location to accommodate the organization’s business needs.
- This position requires 80 hours bi-weekly; hours and days will vary to include evenings, Saturdays, and some Sundays.
