Location: This position is located in our Albany Office.

Position: Full-time, Min 35hr/week

Salary: $80,000-$95,000

The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors as permitted by law.

The Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York, a nonprofit civil legal services program, is seeking a Client Services Coordinator for the Albany office. Legal Aid's mission is to fight for fairness, dignity, and justice for those living in poverty and for a society that is inclusive and equitable for all. About the Role:

The Human Resources Manager will plan and implement the administrative functions of Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York. The Human Resources Manager will oversee the hiring and interviewing of staff, benefits and leave administration, and support the Directors in enforcing Society policies and procedures. The Human Resources Manager will oversee the Human Resources Administrator.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Administers, oversees, or collaborates on the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters. disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development
  • Coordinate human resources needs between management and employees by responding to and interpreting Society policies.
  • Provide support and guidance to direct reports on human resources matters.
  • Manage the talent acquisition process including job postings and recruitment.
  • Aid in resolving work-related employee relations issues.
  • Advise executive and senior management on organizational policy matters.
  • Assist in implementing collective bargaining agreement provisions.
  • Assist in performance management including employee performance corrective action measures.
  • Administer open enrollment periods for benefit plans.
  • Ensure proper ERISA annual notice distribution.
  • Review employee complaints regarding Sexual Harassment, Discrimination and EEOC allegations to determine necessary measures.
  • Conduct internal investigations as lead, or in conjunction with the Human Resources Director.
  • Implement an effective new hire onboarding processes including orientation.
  • Implement, organize and conduct onboarding of new employees through training sessions, orientation, and the distribution of informative materials.
  • Maintain proper employee records.
  • Conduct exit interviews, as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Recommended best practice changes.
  • Nurtures a positive work environment.
  • Work with the Human Resources Director, as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required.


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Resident of New York State.
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field, or the experience-equivalent required.
  • Master's degree, preferred.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP, or related certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of human resources management experience.
  • Experience working with Collective Bargaining Agreements and Unions.
  • Not for Profit experience a plus.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strongly analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate where appropriate, with oversight.
  • Strong data entry and computer skills.
  • Thorough working knowledge of employment related laws and regulations.
  • Experience with NYS employment related laws and requirements.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with least 50 WPM ability.
  • Ability to speak a second language, particularly Spanish, a plus.
  • Reliable transportation and willing to travel to other locations, as needed.


Work Environment:

This position operates in a professional law office environment and occasionally may require the carrying of items of up to 20 pounds. This role requires the use of standard office equipment and software and remote videoconferencing platforms.
