ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide onsite assistance to employees at the facility or in the field as needed.
  • Advise management on the administration of human resources policies and procedure. Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency and services performed.
  • Creates, implements, and delivers company programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Consult with management to develop or implement personnel policies or procedures; Educate and communicate policies and procedures, laws, standards, and government regulations to new and current employees/employers.
  • Promotes a positive employee environment through the application of fair, consistent, and equitable human resources practices
  • Provides advice and direction to management and employees on HR Policies, employment programs, practices & processes, and addressing and improving performance concerns through coaching, counseling, career development, and disciplinary actions.
  • Works to resolve employee relations issues as they occur, interfacing with various levels of management.
  • Prepares reports and recommends procedures to tardiness, absenteeism, and turnover.
  • Prepares employee separation notices and related documentation. Conducts interviews to determine reasons behind separations.
  • Conducts timely, effective, thorough, and objective investigations to resolve moderate to complex employee relations/labor issues.
  • Recruits, interviews, tests and assist in selecting new hires to fill positions as needed.
  • Oversee onboarding of newly hired employees to include writing job descriptions, employee handbook and code of conduct overview, completion of required employment documents, benefit enrollment, equipment assignment, and all other required actions.
  • Coordinates the processing of payroll and accuracy of employee data in coordination with Finance.
  • Maintains and updates associate files with proper documentation, including retention records of benefits plan participation, health insurance, personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, terminations, and employee statistics for government reporting.
  • Administers benefits such as health, dental and disability insurances, vacation, sick leave, leave of absence and employee assistance.
  • Investigates accidents and prepares reports for the insurance carrier. Represents the company for unemployment claims or workers' compensation injury claims.
  • Manage and process worker's comp claims and implement a process to mitigate excessive worker's comp claims.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state and local regulations while adhering to corporate policies, procedures, and practices pertaining to employment matters.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and affirmative action guidelines and laws, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of Bureau of Cannabis Control regulations for businesses in the Cannabis field.
  • Create and process reports as needed. Responsible for all HR data management and integrity.
  • All other duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS:

Job Specific – Technical

  • Proficient in multiple human resource disciplines with a strong background in training, recruitment and selection, and employee relations.
  • Ability to provide management level coaching and guidance on performance management, career development, and employee relations issues, leadership development and succession planning.
  • Demonstrated tact and diplomacy with highly confidential information.
  • Excellent knowledge of relevant employment legislation.
  • Professional presentation skills and demeanor.
  • Must demonstrate strong analytical, communication and exceptional problem-solving skills thereby making swift decisions to close issues quickly.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with the aptitude to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to support management through complex issues and make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues.

Language

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; Spanish is an asset.

Mathematical

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret graphs.

Computer

  • Strong PC skills (Google Docs, Word, Excel, e-mail/web).
  • Ability to develop PowerPoint presentations.

Health & Safety

  • Ability to set a positive example through adherence to Lehua’s Health & Safety practices and procedures.

Education and Experience (Include any certificates, licenses, or registrations that may be required)

  • Previous Cannabis industry experience and/or deep product knowledge will be given priority.
  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management or Business is preferred.
  • PHR required SPHR certification, or working towards, will be given priority.
  • 3 years in HR Coordinator or Generalist capacity role
  • Benefits administration: 2 years (Preferred)
  • Thorough knowledge of current US and California labor laws.
  • Proficient knowledge of compensation and benefits administration, FMLA, as well as recruiting and termination.
  • Working knowledge of computer software programs, such as Google Docs, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and employee database systems in a web-based environment.
  • Prior experience, proficiency, and management with PayChex an asset.
  • Must have the ability to quickly scan through large numbers of resumes to vet the best possible candidates for management review.
  • Must be flexible in order to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands. Ability to work under deadlines and handle multiple tasks.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Must be able to pass a background check required under the industry regulations.
  • Per DCC guidelines, you must be 21 years or older.

Work Environment:

  • Sitting for extended periods of the day.
  • Ability to be accessible by staff.
  • Employees may interact with upset staff in interpreting and enforcing Lehua policies and procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None currently.
