Leidos is seeking a motivated Quantum Technologies Intern. The position will be based out of our Arlington, VA office, which is within walking distance of the Ballston Metro stop. However, this position is available as remote work or onsite.
This candidate will work with other researchers and engineers in research projects focused on exploring quantum technologies focused on communications and sensing, with relevance to Leidos’ internal projects and customer-focused efforts related to quantum information science. Potential tasks that the candidate could perform include but are not limited to: hands-on lab work, data processing, signal analysis, and research in support the development of use cases and workflows that feature the application of quantum technologies in structured, scientifically-rigorous experiments; supporting the integration of novel and/or experimental technologies in the context the use cases and/or workflows; analyzing and reporting the results of the experiments for review by senior scientists, engineers, and other senior decision-makers. While experience with quantum computing algorithms or hardware may be beneficial, this position is NOT a quantum computing position.
The candidate must be intellectually adaptive, inquisitive, communicative, a self-starter and problem-solver, and self-managed when necessary. The intern will also perform statistical analysis of the research to include visual and graphical presentation of results for decision-makers.
Primary Responsibilities
At the direction of the project lead, analyze and assess internal and external capabilities for incorporation into use cases, workflows, and experiments.
Experimental design, data validation, analysis, sensor integration and calibration.
Integrate and adapt internal and external capabilities into Leidos’ experimental environment, conduct and/or support testing, evaluation, and experimentation.
Communicate plans and results effectively through written status reports and presentations.
Basic Qualifications
Pursuing Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Mathematics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Material Science, or a related technical field.
Has hands-on experience with programming languages such as Python, Matlab, Java, Scala, C/C , Ruby, or Rust.
US Citizenship required and must be eligible to obtain DoD security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrable, hands-on experience with short time-frame turn around on any of: integrating software-based projects, data analysis, sensor integration and calibration
Familiarity with, or exposure to, quantum communications, quantum sensing, photonics, integrated photonics, material science, optics
Pay Range:
Pay Range $44,200.00 - $79,900.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
