What are the responsibilities and job description for the Thermal Technical Program Manager position at LHH?
Our client is searching for a Thermal Technical Program Manager that will be responsible for leading the management and execution of thermal cooling solution for server and storage platform programs throughout the product lifecycle, driving design and development activities from product definition and planning through production, release, and end of life.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and track thermal deliverables from early concept through production and sustaining across portfolio of server and storage platforms and ensure thermal solutions are delivered on time.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure thermal fan speed control implementation aligns with firmware timeline and program execution timeline.
- Lead cross-functional meetings across hardware, firmware, and thermal teams to drive thermal issues to closure.
- Participate in weekly program core team meetings with customers to communicate updates, track progress, and ensure that the program is on track to meet upcoming milestones.
- Coordinate meetings with vendors covering various thermal components (fans, heat sinks, CDUs, liquid cooling components) in collaboration with procurement to gather technology roadmap.
- Coordinate thermal deep dive meetings with CPU/GPU partners, and other ASIC companies as needed to gather technical collateral
- Support management of thermal chamber allocation by priority, customer, and program.
- Work with legal and third-party labs to establish NDAs and purchase orders etc. to facilitate third party testing.
- Provide customers thermal lab tours and demo when they visit our facility.
What You Bring:
- Extensive experience and working knowledge of thermal chambers, thermocouples, data loggers, thermal test equipment, fans, heatsinks, thermal interface material, and liquid cooling technologies, etc.
- Experience in thermal design for servers and storage platforms.
- Experience developing and tuning thermal fan speed control algorithms.
- Experience running benchmarks like SPEC power and performance.
- Hands-on thermal chamber and thermal lab experience.
- Good understanding and knowledge of thermal CFD software like FloTherm
- Strong Cross-functional team management, strong interpersonal skills and adaptive communication style.
- Strong project management skills in developing schedules and tracking to milestones.
- General knowledge of acoustics in relation to thermals.
- Good understanding of hardware and system software interactions, and ability to apply this knowledge to resolve technical issues.
- Ability to view situations objectively from different perspectives.
- Ability to frame situations and make/drive decisions.
- Ability to resolve complex problems, drive for results, innovate, think and lead strategically.
- Ability to interact with external customers.
- BS in Mechanical Engineering. Masters preferred.
- 10 years of relevant experience in thermal design for server and storage platform development, 7 years with Masters.
- 5 years as a lead.
