What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr Phlebotomist position at Lifespan?
Summary:
Under general supervision performs responsibilities associated with obtaining blood and other patient specimens in accordance with established procedures. Works primarily in satellite physician offices to obtain samples from adults and pediatric patients for routine and specialized tests. Prepares specimens to be transported to laboratory for testing. Prepares and maintains related records.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Level of knowledge generally acquired through high school plus accredited course through a hospital or a community college.
National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences certification preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care patients with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
EXPERIENCE:
One year previous phlebotomy experience with demonstrated venipuncture proficiency and ability to function independently.
Knowledge of blood collector equipment anticoagulants used special precautions and interferences and ability to implement principles of aseptic techniques.
Basic knowledge of anatomy physiology infection control specimen processing medical terminology anatomic terminology first aid and safety.
Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination to perform venipuncture techniques and capillary puncture on adults children and infants and visual acuity to distinguish chromatic colors.
Demonstrated skills and ability to effectively communicate with all levels allay fears of patients and to perform other activities which require courtesy and tact.
