What are the responsibilities and job description for the Solar Installer position at LightEdison?

LightEdison is a growing multi-region energy implementation partner focused on LED lighting, solar and solar storage projects. We are a licensed electrical contractor in CA, CO, AZ, MS, TN, SC, NC and MS, performing solar and LED installation for various clients. Our projects include a combination of LED retrofit and new fixture installs, solar PV and battery storage installs and servicing of previous projects. Since 2015 LightEdison has converted over 125 sites in 14 US states to LED lighting significantly improving customer operations, reducing costs by millions of dollars and reducing energy demand by over 3 MW. LightEdisons capabilities include lead generation, marketing, auditing using an internally designed and purpose built audit app, system design and specifications, proposal generation, rebate expertise and completion, financing, contracting, procurement, project management, self-performance installation capability, closeout, long-term service all using integrated digital support systems. LightEdison is currently hiring for the following position:

Solar Installer (Level 4)

Solar installers work closely within a team installing cutting edge energy solutions IN VARIOUS LOCATIONS ACROSS THE UNITED STATES. This position would require you to work in rotations of 3 weeks on site, and 1-week home rotation.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

As a Solar Installer, you will:

  • Install active solar systems, including solar collectors
  • Assist crew with site setup
  • Lay rails and build racks
  • Program, adjust, or configure inverters and controls for desired set points and operating modes.
  • Test operating voltages to ensure operation within acceptable limits for power conditioning equipment, such as inverters and controllers.
  • Install module array interconnect wiring, implementing measures to disable arrays during installation.
  • Identify methods for laying out, orienting, and mounting modules or arrays to ensure efficient installation, electrical configuration, or system maintenance.
  • designer Identify electrical, environmental, and safety hazards associated with photovoltaic (PV) installations.
  • Visually inspect and test Solar modules or systems.
  • Terminate mc4 connectors, as needed
  • Demonstrate system functionality and performance, including start-up, shut-down, normal operation, and emergency or bypass operations.
  • Measure and analyze system performance and operating parameters to assess operating condition of systems or equipment.
  • Identify methods for laying out, orienting, and mounting modules or arrays to ensure efficient installation, electrical configuration, or system maintenance.
  • Determine Solar system designs or configurations based on factors such as customer needs, expectations, and site conditions.
  • Perform routine Solar system maintenance on modules, arrays, batteries, power conditioning equipment, safety systems, structural systems, or balance of systems equipment.
  • Activate Solar systems to verify system functionality and conformity to performance expectations.
  • Compile or maintain records of system operation, performance, and maintenance.
  • Install required labels on solar system components and hardware.
  • Identify and resolve any deficiencies in Solar system installation or materials.
  • Install systems in accordance with codes and standards using drawings, schematics, and instructions.
  • Apply weather sealing to array, building, or support mechanisms
  • Install module array interconnect wiring, implementing measures to disable arrays during installation.
  • Check electrical installation for proper wiring, polarity, grounding, or integrity of terminations
  • Assemble solar modules, panels, or support structures, as specified.
  • Assisting with full wire setup and maintenance
  • Assemble solar modules, panels, or support structures, as specified.
  • Keep the work area clean of debris and loose tools. Trash cleanup and movement of materials.
  • Safely transport modules to and from job sites.
  • Safely unbox modules and equipment for installation.
  • Increase job knowledge by participating in staff training opportunities.
  • Enhance organization reputation by exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Education and Certification Requirements

  • Must have a High School Diploma
  • Must complete OSHA 10 certification within 1 month of hire
  • CPR and First Aid Certification
