Lighthouse owns and operates Spero Housing Group, a subsidiary non-profit dedicated specifically to developing and operating high quality affordable and supportive housing for persons of low and moderate income, as well as HandUp, a community and crowdfunding platform serving 100 homeless service agencies and their clients across the United States.
Position SummaryThe Emergency Shelter Shift Monitor should be highly motivated, and skilled in critical thinking. This on-site role is critical to providing support across Lighthouse’s shelter locations through both basic need material items and conflict resolution.
Compensation is $16.11 / hr.Responsibilities & DutiesCore Responsibilities :
- Build rapport with guests sheltering in motels and stationary shelter.
- Provide building coverage for our Emergency Shelter Program and ensuring the general safety of shelter guests by monitoring the shelter grounds.
This includes walking the grounds and checking video cameras / surveillance equipment.
- Provide front desk support; answering phones; light clerical work; greeting / screening residents, visitors and volunteers.
- Responding to and documenting crisis calls while practicing shelter diversion when possible.
- Deliver meals and other essential items to shelter guests.
- Respond to resident requests, assist with conflict resolution and crisis situations.
- Perform weekly inspections of onsite units and document inspections.
- Assist with the cleaning and flipping of units once a client moves out of the program.
- Complete paperwork and data entry thoroughly and on a timely basis. This including tracking services rendered. Data entry includes HMIS (Homeless Management Information System), Link2Feed, daily call logs, daily stats sheet, client records, daily house logs, and other paperwork as assigned.
- Paperwork includes but is not limited to shelter intake packets, sign in and out sheets, client surveys, resources packets ,etc.
- Participate in appropriate staff and team meetings.
- Assist with coordinating move-ins and client exits as needed
- Attend trainings and workshops to enhance professional development and represent Lighthouse.
- Carry out any additional tasks assigned by their supervisor.Minimum Qualifications :
- Minimum requirement of a High School Diploma,
- Professional or lived experience with homelessness,
- Experience working with low-income individuals and families,
- Demonstrated ability to maintain strong professional and personal boundaries,
- Demonstrated ability to uphold and enforce program policies and procedures as necessary,
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps,
- Strong organizational and communication skills,
- Strong conflict resolution skills,
- An appetite for innovation and creative problem-solving,
- Ability to work evenings, late nights, weekends, and some holidays, and
- Reliable transportationPreferred Qualification :
- Associate’s Degree in mental health, social work or hospitality
- Some knowledge of the social services landscape in Oakland County and surrounding areasPhysical Demands : The incumbent typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties.
The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office. Incumbent may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the workday.
The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 20 pounds.
Contact with the public in office environments may risk exposure to irrational / hostile behavior, contagious diseases, or contact with domestic animals.
