JOB TITLE: Assistant Professor, Tenure Track Professor of Communication

REPORTS TO: Chair of Mass Communication and Dean of Faculty
JOB SUMMARY:
Lincoln University invites applications for a full-time, open rank, tenure track position in the Department of Mass Communication to begin in the Fall of 2023. The successful candidate will be a dynamic teacher of undergraduate students as well as a scholar with an ambitious research and publication agenda. The ideal candidate will show evidence of thoughtful intellectual engagement in the field of communication and media. Candidates will be expected to teach four courses a semester and to teach in-person courses ranging from social media management, digital media strategies, mass media and society, mobile journalism, strategic communication, or introductory courses such as public speaking and introduction to mass communication. The candidate will also play a key role in developing and revising existing curriculum in their specific area of expertise.
The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D./Terminal Degree by the hire date. ABD candidates will be considered if they have a dissertation defense date scheduled by hire date. Commensurate with experience, consideration for a higher rank will be considered.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will:
- Offer dynamic, engaging, and student-centered pedagogy utilizing up-to-date pedagogical practices in communication studies.
- Will teach a normal load, typically four courses in-person a semester, including general education classes and new courses and actively mentor and advise students.
- Will be a contributing member of departmental and university required meetings and initiatives including departmental meetings events, course and curriculum development, and university-wide initiatives.
- Maintain active professional engagement and research, which are required for promotion and tenure consideration.
- Will share the Universitys commitment to diversity, inclusion, and anti-racist pedagogy and be prepared to join an active cohort of faculty who teach undergraduate courses and advise/mentor students.
EDUCATION:
- A Ph.D./Terminal degree in Communication or related field
- ABD candidates will be considered if they have a dissertation defense date scheduled by hire date
EXPERIENCE:
- Evidence of 2 years of teaching at undergraduate level
- Proven agenda of research
- Communication skills consistent with effective teaching, mentoring and motivating communication majors from a broad range of cultural, ethnic, and economic backgrounds and actively participating in the department and broader university.
- Experience in course design, development, and assessment of student learning outcomes.
- Involvement in communication organizations and conferences such as PRSA, ECA, NCA, etc.
- Experience utilizing an LMS such as canvas and other software
- Leadership experience
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a university campus environment. All classes are currently taught in-person and faculty are required to be present on campus to teach their courses. The employee is subject to inside environmental conditions and protection from weather conditions.
