Coalition Coordinator/ Community Prevention Specialist Career Opportunity
Lindenhurst Community Cares Coalition LCC is a nationally recognized, award-winning nonprofit serving Lindenhurst. We provide substance abuse and mental health prevention programs and services across the lifespan with the primary focus on youth. Responsibilities include:
Coalition Coordinator (50-60%): The Coalition Coordinator provides leadership and support to the coalition, committees, and sector partners involved in the implementation grant initiatives. The coordinator is involved in all phases of community coalition efforts including outreach, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Additional responsibilities include participating in marketing and publicity of the coalition and its activities, coordinating regular meetings and trainings, researching and recommending environmental prevention projects and activities for the coalition, participating in community activities and community task groups as a coalition representative, and providing outreach to underserved populations on behalf of the coalition. The coordinator oversees the Lindenhurst Community Cares Coalition in accordance with their goals and action plan. The coordinator is also responsible for the recording of initiatives related to coalition efforts and working with committees to prepare and report this information to the coalition and community members.
Community Prevention Specialist (40-50%): Coordinate and assist the MS and HS Youth Clubs. Coordination involves recruiting and training community volunteers and high school peer leaders who run the club initiatives. Assist with coordinating and teaching other classroom presentations, parent presentations, and educational and support groups within the Lindenhurst School District. Perform community outreach and education. Attend community and school events, interagency and committee meetings as requested by Executive Director.
Position Qualifications: A master’s degree in Public Health, Health Education, Social Work, or a closely related field is preferred. If lieu of a master’s degree, a bachelor’s degree is required with at least 5 years of experience in the field of public health or community prevention. The candidate must have experience working as key personnel in community organization and mobilization related to public health initiatives. It is also required that the Coalition Coordinator has experience in preparing and delivering effective presentations and trainings for diverse groups and facilitating multiple group meetings and projects simultaneously. The individual must have a flexible schedule with the ability to work some nights and weekends for trainings, meetings, and events.
Skills & Knowledge: The Coalition Coordinator must have exceptional communication skills, and the ability to create and sustain community partnerships and work collaboratively. The candidate must have experience with social media, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Drive software applications. It is also preferred that the individual has knowledge of local organizations and the community to be served. The Coalition Coordinator must have knowledge on how to effectively collect, analyze, and report quantitative and qualitative data related to substance use in a meaningful and interesting manner. The ability to facilitate focus groups and key informant interviews is preferred. The individual must have good time management skills and the ability to prioritize to meet deadlines. The Coalition Coordinator will also assist the Executive Director with funding applications.
Amount of Travel: A valid driver’s license, transportation, and current auto liability insurance is required. Some travel is required to attend trainings/conference that may take place out of state.
Full time/part time/monthly/weekly (hours per day): Full-time, 35 hours per week, along with a supportive, and professional environment.
