Position Title: Statewide School Suicide Prevention Manager
Status: Full-Time/Exempt
Reports To: YouthLine Deputy Director
Schedule: This position will primarily work Mondays – Fridays, 8:30 am – 5 pm ten months of the year from mid-August to mid-June and will have 2 months off during the summer due to schools being closed.
Compensation: $68,244.80-$73,216 annually plus full medical, dental, vision insurance. matching 401k, professional development funds, a free Fitbit, sick time, and paid time off.
Location: Remote but must be located in the state of Oregon.
This position requires the ability to travel throughout Oregon for meetings, trainings, and other initiatives.

About the Organization:
Lines for Life is a regional non-profit that is dedicated to preventing substance abuse and suicide. We offer help and hope to individuals and communities and promote mental health for all. Our work addresses a spectrum of needs that include intervention, prevention, and advocacy. We educate, train, and advocate to prevent issues of substance abuse, mental illness, and thoughts of suicide from reaching crisis levels. But when a crisis arises or support is needed, we are available 24/7/365 to intervene with personalized help.

Position Summary:
The Statewide School Suicide Prevention Manager will lead and coordinate suicide prevention initiatives across Oregon with schools, school districts, and education service districts (ESD). This work will include monitoring and supporting progress on district Suicide Prevention, Intervention, and Postvention Plans as required by Oregon Senate Bill 52: Adi’s Act. This position will collaborate with relevant suicide prevention partners. The work of this role will be guided by the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) and other statewide youth suicide prevention leaders.

Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate the culture of Lines for Life by modeling behavior that supports the organization’s goals and philosophies.
  • Provide statewide leadership and strategic visioning on suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention in primary and secondary education.
  • Serve as a resource on school suicide prevention for schools, school districts, ESDs, the School Safety and Prevention System, regional suicide prevention coalitions, and other relevant partners, which includes supporting design, implementation, and continuous improvement of school district Suicide Prevention, Intervention, and Postvention Plans.
  • Maintain and continue building out the Oregon School Suicide Prevention Resource Library with consultation from OHA and other statewide partners through adding and vetting existing materials and creating new content as needed.
  • Liaise with school and school district administrators to solicit ideas for and lead development of relevant, useful suicide prevention tools, resource guides, and templates.
  • Collaborate with relevant partners on statewide suicide prevention initiatives, including the OHA Youth Suicide Prevention Coordinators, Oregon Department of Education School Safety and Prevention System, University of Oregon Suicide Prevention Lab (UO SPL), Suicide Rapid Response, and Association of Oregon Community Mental Health Programs (AOCMHP).
  • Attend relevant internal and external meetings, including YouthLine and Lines for Life staff meetings, the Oregon Alliance to Prevent Suicide’s quarterly meetings and Schools Committee meetings, the Oregon Task Force on School Safety meetings, and Big River initiative meetings.
  • Participate in the Oregon School Suicide Prevention Project (OSSPP) with the UO SPL by attending regular meetings, supporting participating schools, and providing consultation to project leaders.
  • Under shared coordination or invitation, promote school suicide prevention activities and community engagement by attending Regional Coalition Meetings or other local community gatherings as available.
  • Send out regular communication to school and community partners on youth suicide prevention, including a quarterly newsletter and a biannual Statewide Call to Action.
  • Complete an annual scan of publicly available school district Suicide Prevention, Intervention, and Postvention Plans.
  • Design, organize, and facilitate regular suicide prevention planning workshops for schools, school districts, and ESDs.
  • Coordinate YouthLine Suicide Prevention Mini-grants Program for schools and school districts to support localized, tailored, and culturally-responsive suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention planning and implementation.
  • Collect and track data on technical assistance provided to schools, school districts, ESDs, or other partners to meet quarterly and annual reporting requirements provided by OHA and share information with other relevant partners.
  • Responsible for managing the program budget including travel, professional development and supplies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Statewide School Suicide Prevention Manager Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in a related social sciences field required.
  • Experience in and knowledge of best practices in suicide awareness, prevention, intervention, and postvention with a youth and student focus.
  • Commitment to centering equity in suicide prevention strategies.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention.
  • Understanding of school-focused evidence-based suicide prevention and postvention and mental health models, procedures, and trainings
  • Strong understanding of school systems and a minimum of two years of experience working within schools and with school administration.
  • Ability to guide, assess, support, triage, and build rapport with school administrations and teachers to uphold best practice in school suicide prevention protocol and policy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience crafting and delivering presentations for colleagues and external partners.
  • Proficient with database and MS Office computer environment.

Statewide School Suicide Prevention Manager Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification in school-focused evidence-based suicide prevention and postvention and mental health models, procedures, and trainings, such as RESPONSE program, Connect Suicide Postvention, Sources of Strength, and Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA).
  • Certification in ASIST and/or safeTALK.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.

Statewide School Suicide Prevention Manager Compensation Package

The salary range for this position is $68,244.80 - $73,216 annually, depending on education, experience and trainings. Travel & Schedule Requirements:
  • This position requires the ability to travel throughout the state of Oregon to meet with suicide prevention partners, attend relevant meetings, and attend regional events.
  • This position will require some flexibility in work schedule and will include working some evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the schools. This position is planned to work during the school year from mid-August to mid-June and have 2 months off during the summer while Oregon schools are closed.
