What are the responsibilities and job description for the Full time (W2) onsite Chuukese Interpreter (Qualified preferred) position at Linguava Interpreters Inc?
Position Purpose
Work as a full-time on-site medical interpreter, to facilitate verbal communication between English speakers and LEPs (Limited English Proficient) individuals by interpreting the message from one language to another while maintaining register and accuracy. May also work from the Linguava office to perform various administrative tasks and scheduled VRI (Video Remote Interpreting) as needed.
Skills and Attributes
Candidates must possess the following skills and attributes:
Qualified Healthcare Interpreter through approved by OHA or become Qualified within 3 months of hiring
- Demonstrate native or near native fluency in both source and target languages.
- Excellent listening, communication, organizational and customer service skills.
- A passing score on language evaluation exam.
- HIPPA certification.
- Available to travel to various work sites in the Portland Metro area
- Proof of Covid Vaccination required
- Must have own car
Essential Functions
- Provide interpretation services at assigned locations for in-person, scheduled video interpretation, video relay interpretation or over the phone interpretation.
- Work with Linguava’s Quality Assurance department to ensure quality.
- Recruit interpreters on-site whenever possible.
- Distribute marketing materials as needed and communicate effectively with the Client Relations department.
- Provide support to on-site interpreters as needed.
- Other tasks and duties as assigned
Qualifications:

Education: State Qualification in Chuukese
Required Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of the interpreting profession and National Standards of Practice for Healthcare Interpreters. Required knowledge of HIPAA, state, and federal laws.
Preferred Experience: Minimum two years of onsite interpreter experience.
Skills/Abilities: Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, & PowerPoint). Ability to work independently as well as on a team.
Required Work Hours: 40 hours per week
Job Type:
Full-time, 8am - 5pm Monday through Friday. Availability to work occasional times outside of shift depending on need.
Benefits and Compensation:
Compensation commensurate with experience. Annual pay: $40, 000 - $46,000.
