Associate Attorney

List Jacobson-Kwok Thorndal, LLP, a boutique family law firm in Oakland, has an immediate opening for an Associate Attorney, with 2 years' experience and who is a Member of the California Bar in good standing to handle cases throughout the Bay Area, primarily in the East Bay. At this time, the position may be primarily remote (or in office as desired), however infrequent in-person meetings at the office and/or in person court appearances are required in the Bay Area, therefore applicants should live in the area or have a strong desire to relocate to the area.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• The ability to work independently, manage deadlines and complete multiple tasks within them;
• A solid understanding of substantive family law and procedures;
• Experience with court appearances;
• Attention to detail, ability to issue spot and plan a case strategy early on, and the ability to meet deadlines;
• Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, DissoMaster and Essential forms (preferred);
• Strong legal research skills. Note, our firm has access to both Lexis and Westlaw;
• Excellent writing skills with experience in drafting motions, pleadings, correspondence, discovery demands and responses and other documents as needed;
• Strong communication skills;
• An ability to work professionally and collegially with co-workers, clients, counsel, the bench and other members of the public; and
• A good sense of humor and ability to compartmentalize.

Prior experience in the practice of family law is highly desired, though the firm would consider a candidate with transferrable legal experience if that person is the right fit. The salary range is $100,000 - $135,000, DOE, for 1,200 billable hours. Associates may also receive discretionary and performance bonuses. The firm offers 401(k) matching (up to 4% of your salary), health insurance, 11 paid holidays each year and additional generous PTO. The firm pays for bar dues, appropriate membership dues, and reasonable MCLE (up to 25 hours of which counts toward billable hours each year).
