LMR Technical Group (LMR) is seeking a Clinical Psychologist


Location: Bethesda, MD. Teleworking eligible.


Job Description:

The Clinical Psychologist will independently provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute of Mental Health. The primary objective is to provide services and deliverables through performance of support services.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides screening and recruitment of patients for research protocols.
    • Work in the Neurodevelopmental and Behavioral Phenotyping Service in the intramural research program at NIMH;
      Collaborate with staff in the Psychiatry Consultation Liaison Service and other research teams from NIMH and other
      Institutes on incoming neurodevelopmental and neuropsychological assessments from Clinical Center inpatient and
      outpatient studies
    • Perform screening evaluations of potential research subjects using structured and semi-structured testing methods
  • Coordinates scheduling and evaluations of patients within each protocol.
    • Perform valid and reliable diagnostic assessments, utilizing structured instruments and assessments
    • Perform cognitive and neuropsychological assessments for clinical care and research studies including diagnostic
      assessments containing parent interviews as well as direct testing with individuals
    • Develop and maintain research protocol records
  • Provides clinical support to patients and their families throughout the time they are participating in research
    protocols.
    • Provide family support and crisis management services as needed
    • Conduct patient and volunteer follow-up evaluations and track patients through longitudinal studies
    • Provide referral to appropriate NIH resources and community services, when indicated
    • Provide verbal and written feedback to participants and their families
    • Provide general recommendations and referrals to school systems, medical and health facilities and other agencies
  • Conducts psychological testing of patients and healthy control subjects.
    • Utilize structured instruments and assessments to perform diagnostic assessments
    • Provide specific autism and neurodevelopmental disorder assessment measures; work with patients of all ages,
      mostly young children, including infants; these also include work with very impaired populations that are assessed for behavioral phenotyping
  • Administers and interprets psychological assessments to probands and family members as part of the research
    protocol.
    • Administer and interpret neuropsychological assessments to probands and family members as part of research
      protocols and prepares reports of results
  • Participates in the planning and execution of clinical research.
    • Work with staff on data collection, entry and analyses of behavioral phenotypic data from a variety of studies,
      including those in several Branches of the NIMH and other NIH Institutes, including NICHD and NHGRI This will include providing consultation to multidisciplinary research teams regarding study findings for incorporation into research manuscripts and presentation
  • Educates research staff regarding the use, strengths and limitation of psychological testing.
    • Provide teaching and training and other presentations to various groups within NIH and to outside community
      stakeholders regarding conditions being studied and research findings
    • Train research assistants, staff and trainees on psychiatric screening interviews and neuropsychological assessments
    • Provide expert consultation to multidisciplinary research teams regarding study findings for incorporation into
      research manuscripts and presentation
  • Conducts psychological testing of patients and healthy controls.
  • Performs as senior clinician responsible for conducting research ratings for inpatients and outpatients.
    • Participate in research group meetings and in the decision-making process regarding patient inclusion in the studies,
      patient and parent diagnosis, and patient and family management throughout participation in the research protocol
  • Documents research processes and findings.
    • Write and present recommendations to automate research tasks and improve approaches to psychotherapy in a
      therapeutic setting
    • Develop and maintain complete and accurate research protocol records
    • Write and present manuals, standard operating procedures, and guidelines for clinical research involving or related to clinical psychology
    • Contribute scientific proposals regarding potential studies and analyses of data as an author to peer-reviewed
      manuscripts regarding study findings
  • Deliverables
    • Meet with lab members to present updates - Weekly
    • Work products and documents related to performing neurodevelopmental and neuropsychological assessments from outpatient and inpatient studies; perform diagnostic assessments; provide specific autism assessment measures. - Weekly
    • Work products and documents related to performing screening evaluations of potential research subjects using structured and semi-structured testing methods; pilot and administer tests for research studies. - Weekly
    • Work products and documents related to data collection, entry, and analyses from a variety of studies, including presentations and manuscripts; develop and maintain research protocol records; provide consultation regarding study design and use of psychological instruments. - Weekly
  • Other related duties as assigned.


Basic Qualifications:

  • PHD in Treatment Therapy Professions, Miscellaneous Health Medical Professions, General Medical and Health Services, or Communication Disorders Sciences and Services.
  • Valid MD state license as a psychologist or license eligible.
  • Minimum of 3 - 4 years of related experience, including experience as a clinical psychologist.
  • Familiarity with clinical research and psychological testing.
  • Experience conducting psychological intake of patients and formulating diagnostic impression and short-term treatment plans.
  • Proficiency with DSM-IV.
  • Proficiency diagnosing psychological disease and preparing research design.
  • Clinical trial management and patient care skills.
  • Skilled in working with special populations (children, adolescents, adult, elderly).
  • Computer skills to include proficiency with MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to use both hands, kneel, stand or walk more than 25 of 30 minutes, and bend repeatedly.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.


    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Prior experience working with the National Institute of Health (NIH).
    • Ability to speak Spanish fluently.

    Expected Salary Range: $95,000 - $136,000 annually. Salary will be based on related experience, education and skills.
