What You Will Do The Sustainability Program manages, implements, and tracks goals set by presidential executive orders and DOE policies.
These goals include optimizing energy and water consumption, electrifying buildings and transportation, and decarbonizing operations and electricity sources.
The Sustainability Program within the Utilities and Infrastructure (UI) Division is seeking an energetic and passionate individual, who has a background in data analysis, analytics and database management and integration.
The selected candidate will work with existing members of the Sustainability Team to assist in site-wide energy, water and green house gas (GHG) emissions management assignments for the Laboratory, comply with Presidential Executive Orders (EO) and Department of Energy (DOE) Orders and the Net-Zero Emissions initiative.
The Sustainability Program covers a broad spectrum of disciplines including sustainable buildings, water management, net-zero emissions planning, and project management.

- Monitor, analyze, interpret, and establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) at the building and campus level.
- Calculate and track energy, water, GHG emissions, cost savings and other related data from identified projects and / or existing databases.
- Update and improve metrics database and dashboards for reporting compliance.
- Proactively analyze data to identify issues, answer key questions, and track key metrics.
- Create and maintain rich interactive visualizations through data interpretation and analysis, with reporting components from multiple data sources.
- Work collaboratively with staff and stakeholders to support day-to-day operations and identify opportunities to increase energy / water efficiency, implement innovative technologies and on-going commissioning (OCx).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Need Minimum Job Requirements : Technical Expertise : Awareness of and experience working with environmental protection regulations, policies, and procedures.
Working knowledge of relevant federal, state and local environmental, occupational health, legislation, regulations and executive orders, including regulatory agreements and consent orders.
Business Acumen : Customer service orientation and consultation skills to successfully partner with client organizations to implement sound environmental practices.
Strong communication and writing skills, to include preparing and presenting environmental protection reports. Experience collaborating with internal and external groups to promote open and effective communication.
Technology : Experience working with databases, dashboards, and data visualization techniques. Education / Experience : Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 2 years related experience;
or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Desired Qualifications :
- Understanding of all Laboratory and regulatory environmental protection requirements.
- Experience working with SQL databases and data visualization platforms such as MicroStrategy, ArcGIS Online, and SkySpark.
- Experience developing forecasts.
- Experience presenting data and metrics to upper-level management or executive leadership, who may not have the technical expertise.
- Active Q Clearance.
Work Location : The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite / partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location.
All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice. Position commitment : Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader.
