The LANSCE Facility User Director (LUFD) is looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious Facility Operations Director (FOD) to lead the LANSCE Facility Operations (LFO) organization. The LANSCE (Los Alamos Neutron Science Center) portfolio includes the LANSCE accelerator, associated experimental areas, and the balance of plant consisting of moderate and high hazard operations that directly support the Laboratories national security mission. This position will report to the LUFD and will partner closely with the Associate Lab Director for Physical Sciences (ALDPS) and the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Physical Sciences.
The Facility Operations Director will provide operational leadership and management of the LANSCE portfolio requiring integration across multiple disciplines (safety basis, facility engineering, facility maintenance, safety, security, project management, contractor assurance, operations support, and emergency response) to ensure safe, secure, compliant, and reliable operations. Demonstrated knowledge in the implementation of work management including conduct of operations, training and qualification, Integrated Work Management, Integrated Safety Management (ISM) and Integrated Safeguards and Security Management (ISSM), or equivalent non-DOE programs. Knowledge of facility, laboratory, and heavy industrial infrastructure and operations. Broad range of experience in managing the interface(s) with programs, projects, and responsible line management to ensure performance and monitor/track cost, schedule, and progress against milestones.
Personnel Leadership:
Demonstrated advanced knowledge of and experience in all aspects of personnel management, including but not limited to managing headcount, forecasting, and budgeting, directing assignments, employee hiring and onboarding processes, providing continuous performance management and feedback to further develop staff including annual performance discussions, identification of growth opportunities, championing diversity and inclusion, and recognition. Ability to manage a workforce in a high hazard environment, requiring a strong background in anticipating and identifying potential operational risks, developing and implementing risk mitigation strategies and corrective actions, and recommending risk acceptance/avoidance for all aspects of the assigned portfolio.
Customer Service:
Demonstrated excellent customer service skills with proven ability of negotiating with customers and management to influence leaders regarding matters of significance to the organization.
Communication & Collaboration:
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Experience interfacing with internal leadership, external stakeholders, and public officials. Demonstrated experience in effective decision-making and creative problem solving. Strong background in exercising responsibility for direct reports including drawing upon deployed staff from line organizations to manage large, multidisciplinary teams in planning, tracking, and execution of program/project plans. Broad range of experience directing the integration of significant, unique, and/or complex program/project work with other Laboratory priories and commitments, including safety, security, environmental compliance, quality, contractor assurance, and business imperatives.
Education/Experience:
Position requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree and 15 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
