What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager, Communications position at Los Angeles Rams?
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The manager of football communications will oversee significant day-to-day responsibilities within the communications department, assisting with the Los Angeles Rams’ year-round publicity efforts.
MAIN JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and maintain media relations strategies that support the Los Angeles Rams team philosophy and NFL platform.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with local and national media.
- Hire, train, supervise, and motivate communications interns and gameday operations staff.
- Responsible for all press box operations on gameday. Enhanced press box gameday experience through improved hospitality and functionality.
- Manage the day-to-day football communications efforts, including serving as the primary player media contact and assistant coach media contact.
- Create talking points for executives, coaches and players.
- Assist with select parts of weekly release under direction of communications manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism or a communications-related field
- Two to four years of full-time experience required within a PR department, with at least two years within a sports organization.
- Strong writing (Associated Press style) and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work flexible/long hours (early mornings, late evenings, weekends, holiday; travel required during the season)
- Proficiency in the use of personal computers, including Microsoft Office, InDesign and desktop publishing
- Extensive knowledge of football statistics and industry strategies/best practices
- Problem-solving skills, attention to detail and ability to succeed in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment
- Proactive leadership characteristics, including ability to provide direction and strong listening skills
Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000. Exact compensation may vary depending on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge, skills and experience.
