THE STARTING HOURLY RATE IS 18.58/HOUR FOR POLICE OFFICER 1-A INSTEAD OF THE MINIMUM LISTED. THE STARTING HOURLY RATE IS $19.88/HOUR FOR POLICE OFFICER 2-A INSTEAED OF THE MINIMUM OF $15.56. *NOTE: This position is part of a Career Progression Group and may be filled at the Police Officer 1-A or the Police Officer 2-A level depending on experience of the selected applicant. If filled at the Police Office 1-A level, employee will train for one year in Police Officer 1-A and will be eligible to move to Police Officer 2-A if all qualifications and standards by the department have been met. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have attained eighteenth birthday at time of appointment. May be required to possess a valid Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment. May be required to complete a Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) course. May be required to qualify annually with a firearm. For some positions, applicant must be eligible for bond. FUNCTION OF WORK: To protect lives and property by conducting foot and mobile security patrols; enforcing parking and traffic regulations; rendering emergency services; investigating minor crimes and making arrest when necessary. Provides a limited range of police services. LEVEL OF WORK: Entry. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: General from a higher-level police official. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.
